It is my understanding that rape and murder were the norm over there and it was ignored almost entirely by history. I could be wrong but I believe Kerry was actually right.

Was he wrong? Has anybody done a full inventory of American war atrocities in Vietnam? I have hard time believing that only American soldiers are immune to the rape/murder tendecies of invading armies.

I certainly believe Kerry was wrong. The reason we all know about My Lai isn't because it was typical, it's because it was so atypical. As for the Mother Jones story, I'll just say a mind is a terrible thing to waste reading Mother Jones and point out that the author provides no evidence of widespread rape and murder other than asserting that only he knows this is true.

Cmon. Stop being a tool. You drafted children, who were largely uneducated (the educated ones got deferments) and not particularly well trained, sent them off to another country to fight a nonsensical war where they saw many of their friends die and you think they all behaved above board? Geez. Stop being an idiot. I'm sure they tortured people who they held responsible and had sex "raped" with women there when they could.

That shit is just part of war, always has been, always will be.

Just one of many reasons to avoid it- war, that is.

That's heresy in Neocon circles, I'm sure.

Even if "our troops" merely raped and murdered as much as civilians, should they not be held to a higher standard? In any case, much more than rare serial killers, "our troops" are certainly keen collectors of human trophies.

Furthermore, though rape statistics are unreliable due to lack of reporting, the US civilian baseline for murder is atrocious with a rate nearly five times higher than the EU and China. So, one would hope "our troops" murdered and raped very much less than US civilians.

It was atypical because one pilot intervened and threatened to fire upon fellow Americans if they did not stop murdering. Then a few reported it, so it could not be ignored or denied.

33 POWs faced execution for treason after Vietnam until Nixon pardoned all POWs. McCain was on the list of the 33, in fact at the head of it.

Here are the facts as we know them:

According to Colonel Ted Guy, John McCain’s commander as a POW, McCain collaborated with the enemy.
McCain is accused of giving information that led to the downing of 60 US aircraft
McCain is accused of training North Vietnamese air defense personnel
McCain is accused of making over 30 propaganda broadcasts against the US, broadcasts he moved to have classified when he was elected to the senate

These 4 accusations are the only real and supportable accusations against McCain. The evidence for these acts exists and is substantial.
