Summary: After giving Russia advance warning of the strike, the US bombed 1 airbase impacting 3 squadrons held together with duct tape.
Syria will now be forced to use other bases or rely on Russian air power as a result.
Trump can now say he is tough guy who has power to blow up stuff.
His followers will be sure to begin posting youtube videos of missiles blowing up things with a big a patriotic "Fahck Ya...Murica rawks"

Even if I mostly hate what Trump displays and what stuff he rode on to get elected, this involvement might actually help. So I don't think it is the right time to be bringing out tweets and past opposite claims (no doubt he made those just to criticise opponent so they were not necessarily honest either) just because you oppose the person behind the actions that are the subject here. Sure, he quickly changed stances, but if the current stance is better...

Because letting Assad do as he wants with Russia happily covering his mass-murderer ass has caused a catastrophe. I don't care what administration does it and if their speeches about the horrible things* are from the heart or just an act. As long as it helps the situation, I'll be glad.

* Let's remember there have been hundreds of thousands of dead, and it actually doesn't matter that much if they were killed by sarin, russian bombs or whatever else. Actual military force should have been applied there years ago from USA and Europe both. We have way more business interfering there given how we are affected by the humanitarian crisis than Moscow.

Apparently there were Russians on the base but we warned them before the strike which gave them time to get their asses out in time. The Syrians would have buggered off too which is good because the intent was to go after infrastructure not the Syrians themselves.

Putin orchestrated the influence campaign because he assumed Trump would be soft on Russian interests. And in many ways, he is (Russia was better informed about the strike than Congress). But Putin also didn't seem to understand that Trump is a wildly inconsistent person who'll change his mind based on whoever he spoke to last, his ego, his desire to distract from issues at home...

you seem to not understand the basics, so here you go...

Russian ran a very larger operation that consisted of thousands of operatives to hack into and manipulate our electorate.

Russia has two primary goals in doing this, to destabilize and weaken the United States and to expand their own influence.

by helping get Trump elected they achieve their goal of destabilizing and weakening the United States.

don't assume that Putin expects to be Trumps BFF.
 
I'm curious if the Russians engaged any of the tomahawks. The air defence systems they've deployed in Syria are designed to also take down cruise missiles. The S-400 is an incredibly capable system.
 
I don't know why anyone would assume this is necessarily contrary to an alliance with Putin. If you truly believe that Putin has peetapes on Trump and hacked the DNC to put him into office, it doesn't make any sense for Trump to throw all of that away for an airstrike in Syria. Putin keeps face by having advanced warning so his soldiers aren't killed, Trump keeps face in light of comments on Obama's weakness and accusations of letting Russia steamroll everything, maybe they get to rattle sabers a bit in public, then in a bit of time they "cool down", sign some treaties, lessen sanctions, and everyone is happy. I don't think Russia cares much about Syria/Assad on a personal level, they just care about potential oil pipelines and maintaining a geopolitical presence in the Middle-East.
