If only all film students could learn to enjoy movies that have no artistic merit instead of acting all superior and belittling people who are able to enjoy such things... if only.

I like stuff like Dumb and Dumber, I dislike most Adam Sandler (early) flicks, but can appreciate some bits of it.

I like some dumb action movies (True Lies). I don't like it when an idiotic script was crapped out to sell cars and green-lighted only b/c it strongly appeals to the 1 out of 4 demographics that ALL studio execs cater to these days--the same demographic that they created and dumbed-down, only to sell more of their crap.

Sure, it's easy to call someone "elitist" b/c they can see the stupidity for what it is, but why not demand a little more effort and thought be put into something that people are paid shit-loads of money to make?

I havent seen it yet, i cannot wait to see it. Michael Bay doesnt create award winning literature he creates films that entertain. He does well in his previous films. Its like comparing a shakespear play to a gladiator fight.

Shakespear has full character development and is well boring as a fly fucking a cat
Gladiator fights: The warriors have a weak backstory, but the entertainment is in watching them do battle.

I then launched into a rant. About the fact that the movie was not intended for kids, its intended for the kids that grew up with transformers.

Then i posted these vids that helped explain what i was trying to say.

I kinda had a anti piss weak kids rant.

I'm watching it in an hour with the kids. Should I stay after the credits or anything? Sorta like the 1st one in the credits you see Starscream escaping Earth's atmosphere.

Michael Bay on Mudflap and Skids - ?I purely did it for kids,? the director said. ?Young kids love these robots, because it makes it more accessible to them.?

I fail to see how lines like, "That's cuz you're a pussy" is "for the kids".

Let me just re-sum up my thoughts on the movie:
- Action scenes - incredible
- Optimus Prime - kick ass (beating Starscream with his own arm )
- Bumblebee - awesome
- Megatron's and Starscream's interactions - Thank you! That's what I wanted to see.
- The Fallen - undeveloped weak big bad guy
- Arcees - I wanted to see more of
- Sideswipe - I wanted to see more of
- Sam's mom - hilarious in the college scenes though it didn't add anything to the overall plot
- Plot - holes so big you could drive Unicron though
- Entertaining - Absolutely but at 2 and a half hours I was getting a little numb towards the end
- Mudflap and Skids + all the swearing that was far more than in the first movie - completely and absolutely unnecessary.
- Still need to work on differentiating the robots more. It still gets hard to tell who is who, especially on the Decepticon side of things but it got a little better with the addition of the Constructicons.

A third movie is all but guaranteed now. ROTF is on track to make $185 million+ over the 5 day release window from Wednesday to Sunday. Exit polling is also showing that 91% of people that watched the movie enjoyed it as much or more than the 1st.

baywatch megan fox kinda makes up for it but still -- mudflap & skids getting more screentime than optimus? that's a foul.
take a little hiatus from TF, make bad boys 3, and then come back strong with TF3.

This was something from the 1st movie I disliked. IN the cartoons everyone had certain colors you can easily tell them apart. Only bumblebee and optimus stands out in the movies. I'm not sure if this is because they wanted to be more realistic so for instance Starscream who is an F-22 isn't gonna have a paint scheme.

A 3rd movie was all but assured even before the numbers came out. Bay now just gets to think in a few years I get even mroe money.

Yeah but Megatron didn't have to have essentially the same paint scheme either since he was supposed to be a Cybertronian jet. Megatron, Starscream, and Blackout (Grindor in ROTF) all are basically the same color making it hard to differentiate...especially between Megatron and Starscream. Plus there were some other unnamed generic Decepticons that came in that had the exact same paint scheme as Megatron that made it hard to tell who was who.

I haven't seen part 2 yet. another hour or so I'll see. But yeah I"m agreeing with you it was hard to tell things in #1 already sometimes.

But since you already saw it is there anything during the credits? Like in #1.

Skids and Mudflap even had huge ears too :p.

I still think the movie needs more Dinobots.

It wasn't too hard to tell the Autobots from the Decepticons in the movie because typically the autobots had a lot more colors to them than the usual gray of the decepticons. It's a little hard to tell some things apart because of how damn complex they are. I mean the cartoons were very simplistic and it made them much easier to differentiate. I still have some trouble telling Megatron (Galvatron) from Starscream unless you can see the F22 wings.

One thing I found awkward is that Optimus Prime was one of the largest mechas in the original show and there were a ton in the movie that were larger than him. I think the only robots that were larger (without combining) were Grimlock, Skyfire/Jetfire and Metropolis (he's a fucking city for God's sake :p). Although the movie can't really do this, because they were hellbent on keeping everything the proper size compared to their respective vehicles.

My friend linked me this one blog post where a guy lists the top 8 reasons to not see Transformers 2 and the guy goes as far as to take the movie as an attack on President Obama (aka a right winger movie) because they mention his name once (in a fake news report, no less) and then throughout the movie, the president makes unfavorable decisions... so that's supposedly an attack .

EDIT:

Wasn't Megatron a Cybertronian tank? He even has treads for feet when he was standing on top of that skyscraper.

Not really no. There's a couple of quick flash scenes but as soon as they start rolling the credits, you can get up and leave without having to worry about missing anything.

Yeah, his alternate form was pretty cool but when Megatron, Starscream, and some of the other Decepticons are in robot mode it's hard to tell who is who.

2. I gotta laugh at everyone claiming Queasy is "sheltering" his children (sideline parents). It sounds to me that he's taking an active role in his kids lives and actually being a parent and not just an overgrown friend.

:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

Batman was originally a comic. The latest two batman movies were freakin awesome. Should that movie be gayified so kiddies can watch?

Your logic is made of fail.

You also realise that when his offspring grow up they can watch the movie then. I daresay they will be rebelling and smoking pot by then anyway, cause they were smothered as children

Transformers was a kid's story.

Now those kids grew up.

Now they make a movie for the culture that grew up with Transformers.

They are 18+

Do them justice, as that should be the target audience.

With that said, I don't see a need for a lot of the stuff Queasy mentioned as it didn't add anything really (and if I ever re-watch it, won't be funny the second time through). So, I agree with him on the fact that that shit was useless to put in there, but disagree that it should be made to remain targeted to kids IMHO. It's the same thing as what they did with Batman, they took the kids story and made it for the adults that grew up with it.

This Ain't It Cool review perfectly sums up how I feel about Mudflap and Skids...aka Car Car Binks.

I just couldn't understand Bay's focus on Car Car Binks. The remaining Autobots from the first movie got almost no screen time and zero character development outside of Optimus Prime. Bumblebee gets very little and is just a repeat from the first movie (though his fight at the end was cool and his scene at college with Sam and Alice in the car was hilarious). The new additions to the Autobots got absolutely zero character development as well. Sideswipe (the Corvette Stingray with swords) looked positively badass but barely spoke a word or did anything aside from standing around looking badass. The Arcee triplets looked interesting as fembots but got no development and spoke maybe one line.

I wasn't expecting Shakespeare or anything but holy crap was Car Car Binks nearly a film killer.

I agree with this 100%. PS I'm 22, and found the twins annoying and would have been fine without them in the movie replaced by Stingray and the triplets. Oh, and Transformers 1 was at least decent and worth my time. The second one was a fairly big waste of my time.

Warning Spoiler here is the plot: Make a long ass movie, with lots of CGI, not developing any characters, some pretty bad stereotypes/jokes that are really a waste of time and offer nothing, show Optimus Prime fighting a lot, throw in some military stuff, and a bad love story.

Was it cool for fight scenes? Maybe. Was it a good movie? No way in hell. I'm glad my gf paid for my ticket (I wasn't huge on going and would have just waited for Netflix personally), because I would have been ticked off I wasted my $ on that.

Oh, and one more note. A big FUCK YOU to the theater I went to (and Bay while I'm at it). I'm surprised my ears weren't bleeding by the end of that thing. Theater sound was absolute shit, and even if it had been a good sound system I don't think it would have helped. Such a sonic piece of shit FWIW.

Some of the humor in the movie makes me wonder if Will Ferrell and Jack Black both had some creative control over it... seems like a bit of the "humor" was right up their alley.

$185m in the opening weekend means it will log around $400m in it's theatrical run.

This isn't unprecedented for a crappy sequel. The Matrix logged $171m domestically, which led to the anticipation for the sub-standard The Matrix Reloaded reaching an incredible level. Reloaded made $110m more domestically than the original ($281m total). The crappiness of Reloaded caused the third film in the trilogy to bomb; only $139m domestically for Revolutions.

I loved the action shots, but I wish they hadn't been zoomed in so much. Sometimes I had trouble figuring out who was getting their arse handed to them. The story wasn't all that great, though, and I really dislike Megan Fox. It could have been worse, though.

I didn't go into transformers with huge expectations, so I didn't come out hating myself for seeing it or anything.

The first movie had a few things that made it feel like they tried to fit too many ingredients into the pie. The kid, the soldiers, the analyst, most of who weren't really fleshed out that well.

The second movie seems like they decided to go even further and include almost every idea anyone submitted. (reading another article I see that he even had more ideas for robots he didn't have time for, a math robot who cant drive etc? -- How about fleshing out the new autobots/decepticons that actually were in the movie...)

There seemed to be various storylines that were simply glossed over or mentioned just briefly. For as long it was, they didn't really focus on many of them at all, which made it feel incomplete and empty. Most characters, especially the new robots simply weren't utilized.

My biggest beef is the proportion of the movie that was the comic relief. Having one character for comic relief is one thing, having 50 is another.

His parents and the Sector7 guy are joined by his roomate, an even more snivelish starscream, the government dude, the eldery robot, and the jarjar twins. His parents were even amplified like 50 times comicrelief-wise, and seriously wtf at the jarjar twins. I almost felt embarrased watching their scenes.

They should have just stuck to what worked in the first movie without adding the twins, the eldery robot etc and told us about the new characters we wanted to hear more about. I didn't dislike the movie but it could have been so much better.

Screw you Michael Bay. You just made a freaking Transformers movie that I can't take my 7-year old son to see because you loaded it up with characters calling each other bitches and pussies, a male dog humping another male dog...twice, a robot humping a girl's leg, and other stupid crap that has no business being in a movie based on a kid's toy. You were right on the edge of the line with the first Transformers but you just destroyed the line with the crap you put in this one.

edit: On a side note, we were in a theater loaded with college and high school kids. I didn't feel out of place because I'm in my thirties. I felt out of place because I didn't have an iPhone. It was like some sort of cult in there.

I have been watching rated R movies since I was 8. I turned out perfectly fine.

Sheltering your kids =

Well, isn't that sweet? I really didn't start watching R rated movies until I was around 13. I turned out perfectly fine as well.

I'll determine how best to raise my kids thank you very much. Not you.

If it was a daughter, I'd say shelter away knowing when she turned 18 and went to college she'd be prime pickings for a great sheltered virgin daddys-girl-baggage cherry pop. But as for a son, reality is I can guarantee you he's heard (and probably seen) far worse. If you're worried about him hearing the word pussy and seeing a robot dry humping a girl, how did you feel about the Burger King "square butts" commercial on TV? My dad took me to see a hellraiser movie (3, I think..?) when I was 7. I didn't turn out soo bad.

I enjoyed the movie overall, probably more so than the first. The twins were so so. I was hoping for Bud Light kinda twins when I heard about it. Seemed like it was going to come true when the chicks on the bikes made their all too brief appearance. Oh, and Megan Fox was raised the next town over from me.. not that it matters. :)

During the previews, they showed the 2012 trailer. Afterwords, a woman behind me said, "Why are they showing a movie that won't be out for four years?". First off, its three. Secondly... ugh.
