How many of the recalls due to salmonella or E. Coli contamination were due to foods made in the US though?

All we have to worry about from China is the use of toxic chemicals, not bioagents. Yum, melamine.

At least we recall the shit! China doesn't give a flying fuck and would just rather let people die than do any real QC.

We're far ahead of China in regards to quality...not quantity.

I love Trader Joe's. Last year when one opened up two blocks from my house I was in heaven. Better stuff than at Safeway, and the walk is one block shorter!

Good for them, and I hope other stores follow their lead.

Yep ... I already buy a lot of my food there & this new policy will only make me shop there more often.

They may not be able to 100% eliminate every trace of Chinese ingredients, but it'll sure improve the odds of not getting any.

Kinda like the toothpaste that had antifreeze in it and china/company said it was ok as there was not that much in it. 😕

Aww no more mochi ice-cream? 🙂 Guess I'll have to hit up on the real Chinese markets for that in the future.

You are in luck!

A. Mochi is Japanese.

B. It's made here.

They don't make the food.

So you happen to hate every product they happen to carry in the store? Why, the odds of that are...absolutely...well...proof of trollage at the least

seems like China's being picked on lately...
they've been doing this for a long time; and they work with investors from Western countries (US, UK, etc) that do have regulations; there are plenty of companies that are run in China by US and foreign corporations (who's at fault there?)...

i think the Govt's and media are just publicizing these issues because it's a good time to point it out; and pointing fingers at China (when in fact, they are also at fault). Keep in mind that since China's hosting the Olympics they have to behave...it's such a good time to whip a country into shape...

 Obviously they don't make the food, and you're either blind or an idiot if you don't think they sell, in general, different products than your average supermarket. Yes, clearly there are some items that are the same, but again...blind or an idiot if you don't see the differences.

No, China deserves it. It is the media that glossed this over for years in the first place. Don't get me started on China hosting the Olympics.

You didn't answer my question.

Also, you don't need to be so hostile all the time.

And people die regularly in China do to the lack of health inspections on food products and Companies performing illegal operations to make a buck.

Sure I do.

And to answer your question - obviously I don't hate every single product they sell, but I dislike their alternatives to the products sold at the mainstream grocery stores, and thusly I hate the store. Simple logic.

On that note, most US corporations who do business in China by manufacturing substandard goods there are equally if not more to blame especially the ones that have products that may cause serious health effects.

Bear in mind, it's only due to government pressure that corporations do recalls. There was a time when, if a product killed or injured you, oh well, too bad! Buy another one, maybe it won't be as dangerous. There was a time when this country employed the same kind of hazardous labor that China doesn't have any qualms about using now. I'm not saying it's right, I'm just saying that it's not as if US companies are altruistic angels.

China deserves it? maybe. but Foreign Corporations are also at fault. alot of Americans fail to realize that the whole world doesn't really like Americans; why? because American companies and our govt f***** them over...the only thing Americans do is point fingers and criticize other countries for being young and 3rd world; inhumane, undeveloped, etc... Americans should realize by now that if they f**** with China; results will be bad...economies around the world would take a big hit...and i dont think the rich Americans will want that...
anyone seen this? http://www.zeitgeistmovie.com/ partly true, partly made up...but it does open up your eyes about our own govt.

We blame China like the entire Country is at fault when these are issues that happened in foreign corporations. What does the country itself have to do you with anything? That's like Wal-Mart making defective bicycles and putting them in their stores overseas and then blaming and banning all of the US. What can China do? Check every can of cat food before it ships out? Give me a break...

I miss Trader Joe's. When I lived in California there was one like a block from my house. Now in NC the only one's are in Cary and Chapel Hill which aren't too far, but far enough that I don't want to drive over there for groceries often.
