Trader Joes sells everything from bread to steak to vegetables to cookies to olive oil to lemonade ... you're certainly covering a lot of ground with that statement.

We blame China like the entire Country is at fault when these are issues that happened in foreign corporations. What does the country itself have to do you with anything? That's like Wal-Mart making defective bicycles and putting them in their stores overseas and then blaming and banning all of the US. What can China do? Check every can of cat food before it ships out? Give me a break...

Like it or not, in the last year there have been an inordinately large number of serious problems exposed in food products from China & frankly I don't really care whose "fault" they are ... I've already been avoiding Chinese food products & TJ's policy will help make my life easier.

If it was a small single issue then yea I would agree. But this has been a problem from toys, toothpaste, food, etc... This is not a isolated problem but a problem with their system and way of doing things.

I like Trader Joe's, but it seems like there is not enough food there for me to do all my shopping. Their produce section is next to nothing, and by the time I've gone down 4 aisles, I'm already in the liquor section. I still go there to pick up some random things when I don't feel like going to Whole Foods, but I can't use it for all my shopping. Just my 2c.

they've been doing this for a long time; and they work with investors from Western countries (US, UK, etc) that do have regulations; there are plenty of companies that are run in China by US and foreign corporations (who's at fault there?)...

i think the Govt's and media are just publicizing these issues because it's a good time to point it out; and pointing fingers at China (when in fact, they are also at fault). Keep in mind that since China's hosting the Olympics they have to behave...it's such a good time to whip a country into shape...

well because the foreign companies in china have very little control. china forces foreign companies into joint ventures with their own companies or the government if they want access to the chinese market. in china the government is all powerful, and thus responsible for the mess.

While this sounds great in theory, there are so many products that aren't made in China but have components that were made in China that I wonder how effective this will be in practice.

Trader Joe's sells food genius.

And many ingredients come from China.

DONT QUESTION JulesMaximus!!!!

Depends on where you are in NC. I'm in Huntersville and visited a Trader joes in N. Charlotte last Saturday for the first time.....I've found a new Grocery Store!! I was suprised by the prices, I thought they would be much more expensive...nope, I will shop there from now on.

Good. Considering they recently recalled pickels from China that has formaldehyde being used as the preservative.

Don't hate on China, hate on the USA companies that want it as cheap as possible so that they can make a bigger profit. Fine, you can hate China for some bad products, but remember that someone here has to sign off on the purchases..

I'm in Raleigh. The stores in Chapel Hill and Cary are too far for me to shop at on a regular basis (50 mile round trip to the Cary store for me). I do go over there from time to time for some favorites I used to buy when I lived in california, like their garlic fries! mmmmmm

Fools... stop trying to make Trader Joe's be your one stop grocery store. That's not their niche and they never claim it is. I don't go into the storefront of my local car audio experts and complain that they don't sell DVDs.
