how much time per day do you spend in fear?

Tired of making Ad Hominem attacks yet? Why do you try and make this about me instead of addressing the issue? The police are becoming more and more militarized against a hapless citizenry. Has history taught you nothing? More and more laws are passed every year that make you a 'felon'. As a felon, depending on the state, you have NO voice. You're not allowed to vote, and you're not allowed to own a firearm. How long until the elite rulers make EVERYTHING a felony for the sake of being a felony and excempt themselves? Oooops!

Have 8 bullets in your gun instead of 7 in new york? Felony. Where was the victim? Not sure but you're under arrest!
Remember Katrina. What did the police do there after the storm cleared? Confiscated firearms . . . . why? The citizens were just trying to protect from looters. Who was the supposed victim? Dunno, but you're under arrest.

Good to know.

I just don't get it.

I'm as 2nd amendment as you can get. I own guns, couple rounds of ammo, have a CPL and carry every day. But I don't sit there and fret about off the wall shit like this.

Is it that the OP can't carry and feels defenseless? Is he prohibited from owning guns for a reason? What goes on in someone's head to make them so afraid, so much?

It just doesn't make sense to me.

Even if you do carry, what are you supposed to do against THAT? What option do you have when the police have so much force available? I hear stories daily about police abuse of power. . . and yet we want to arm them to the teeth? Give them flashbangs to serve warrants and assault people who are late paying their taxes?

When the police do it it's called law
when a citizen does it, it's called crime.

strong disconnect there.

Nothing. An MRAP with a CROW system & M2 could rule an American neighborhood. It's bulletproof, bomb-resistant and does a fair job of shirking off RPGs with netting. Combined with a boomerang (acoustic sniper location system,) it's a powerful combination. The systems optics can be set to scan for and zero in on motion, while the boomerang pinpoints gunshots and swivels the optics to focus on the source.

A properly outfitted MRAP is an awesome weapon against domestic terrorism.

I hear daily stories about Elvis turning into a zombie and landing a UFO on the White House lawn. Does that mean I should put a ton of effort into fearing that?

You hear those stories because you seek those stories. You get some kind of weir, scary and probably neurotic kick out of them.

You never did answer...do you carry? Do you own guns?

At first, I wasn't sure were to properly direct my rage with this thread, until I saw this gif, got distracted by bears, and lost interest in whatever else the windbags in here are screaming about.

If the police have that stuff, they will use that stuff against us. To "serve high-risk warrants" of course. Move along, citizen.

No knock warrants, but you can hear 'em coming?!

"is that a tank? no, it's an MRAP, lets GTFOOH"

This is just sad that the places are getting these. Wtf is wrong with our Law Enforcement system

Who controls or audits the spending that all these toys costs. Surely someone has got to be held accountable. Can't pay the school teachers anything, but the police department has a brand new tank. Its bullshit and the people authorizing these types of expenditures need to be locked up or sent to gitmo.

Can somebody actually explain to me what the problem is with this?

Not MRAP bad because well MRAP! But an actual thought out response as to how this presents a net harm to society.

The problem comes when you see mission creep with their use. Since there really isn't a whole lot of domestic terrorism, we'll see these things used on SWAT team raids, and we'll see the SWAT teams used more and more often for tasks that should be handled by regular police.

It's happening now: https://www.aclu.org/blog/tag/militarization-police

http://www.amazon.com/Rise-Warrior-C.../dp/1610392116

Eventually, the police could become the instrument by which an increasingly totalitarian US Government could crack down on our individual rights.

These are usually Federal grants/gift certificates targeted for the equipment.
Surplus equipment.

Between Balko's book and http://www.amazon.com/Government-Wol...mm_hrd_title_0 you should realize WHY this is a problem. . . if not put your head back in the sand and continue your life.

<---- libertarian here
And I'm not even sure i want a libertarian utopia . . . . i just think we need to go that direction. . . not all the way there.

Non-aggression principle. Non-initiation of force.

Society =/= government
law =/= justice

Not sure why this is so difficult for some to understand. Why in God's name do civilian law enforcement need military vehicles? Is that the role of our police? Nope. Are they military? Nope. Is there a history of other nations militarizing their police and bad things ensue? Yep.

Simple.....
