either overcorrected or let off the gas in the turn.

Or maybe it was a very tight S and you slammed all of your weight to the outside of the left portion causing a rear-wheel traction loss.

But from the looks of it you hit it pretty square which means you somehow got comletely sideways.

There's a load of good cars out there....depends on what you want.

My bro had a rex... 4 weeks after he got it, he got rear ended... Then about every 3 months after that the clutch flex plate would burn out... needless to say he got rid of the rex pretty soon after the clutch went out the 3rd time... He has a 97 Ford Explorer, and loves it... (He needed the cargo room for his equipment)...

Personally if you don't want another wagon/suv, go for a civx/integra... It's a honda so they it'll last forever. Used, they are pretty cheap. Plus if you end up later on wanting something faster, there are tons of aftermarket mods...

And? I've driven tons of roads like that and I've never totaled my car.

And? I've never been struck by lightning. . . sooo your point is?

Unless he was drinking and driving, all he did was have an accident. $hit happens.

My point is, if you're driving at the speed limit in good weather conditions and not goofing off or being distracted, accidents like that just don't happen. Be it speeding, distracted, bad weather, mechanical failure or goofing off something more than it just happened is to blame. And I'm not trying to play the driving high ground here, I've been in two accidents, both my fault, one related to me going to fast for the area I was in and one because I wasn't paying attention. I have no problems admitting what happened and who's to blame in either case. I'm just glad that noone was hurt in either accident, and noone was hurt in imprezawrxwagon's accident.

Oh, and to actually reply to your post.

I second the Maxima. Nice combination of luxury and power, on the cheap. Black (it makes the taillights look better).

what is the "safe"/"reliable" mileage for Maxima? 90K, - too old? 50K, - ok?

I expect it to last at least three years more or less problem free.

Meh..the Max will go for a long time as long as it gets it maintanece..which goes for any car really. I know a few guys with 250k+ km on their 96 Maxima..working out fine.

All jokings aside, you'll probably laugh but why not a Ford Crown Vic (Interceptor). You've got a heavy foot obviously... it'll get the job done.

I would guess around 50k. I have never had one personally, just knew a couple of freinds that did. Never heard any complaints from them. Check out Carfax, it sets your mind at ease about what you are purchasing.

integra and such are just too smal ... I have gotten used to the roominess of the wagon

and I hate SUV's with passion for the exception of VX

I agree. I've driven at speeds over 110 more times than I care to remember, and I've never totaled my car as a result. But, I also don't believe that something will never happen. The odds are higher, when you're a flyer! 😀

I considered it. It is best bet in used cars recommended by edmunds. but it's too big, I like something more responsive. But i'll listen to all you have to say about it.

Yeah last long as you don't abuse them. Although I think the 97 Maxima 5-spd had problems with hteir manual, but its pretty rare, the rest are fine. Just try to get the newest max that u can afford.

Heh. You just described my current car. 96' Toyota Avalon. It has over 100k and still runs perfect!

Notice how the front tires are turned to the outside (right side) with the bumper and trim smashed up between the wheel and fender? That means that the front wheels must have been turned to the outside (right) at impact. Then notice the sheer force of the impact on the outside (passenger, I hope no one was sitting there) door.
My guess is the opposite, spidey... I think it was a high-speed powerslide around a long, fast, left turn. Way too much speed and an undercorrection caused him to slide straight sideways right off the road and smack right into that brick column. Letting off the gas might have helped him, putting weight on the front tires to pull through the turn.
Of course, that's just a wild guess... would be nice to see some pics of the road and the tire marks.

If no one was hurt in that, wagon-boy, you're either lucky as hell or the WRX is even safer than I imagined. That was a nasty one.

Not for me. I'm 6'7".

On a similar note: I don't fit in a Maxima. 😛

🙂

I have a 99 SH. Great car with superb handling.

However space is not one of it strong points as there is none.

It is hard to tell what happened - whether it was understeer or oversteer, the force of the impact is pretty great. A passenger would have been in serious trouble.
