I am not about to compete in WRC, but I know what I can and can not do. But sometimes things happen. It is just the way it is.

Things like that brick post don't just happen when you're not going 70 through a curve.

40 is enough to do that kinda damage... I love it when people think that they are good drivers. Nobody is "good enough" to avoid mistakes. Not even if your name is Michael Schumacher or Marcus Grunholm. My philosophy on street racing follows that as well. One error and you could cost you or someone else their lives. You were lucky nobody was in the passenger's seat! :Q

Yes, you don't deserve a fast car for quite a while according to the insurance company... on this board I'm preaching to the choir it seems. The Maxima is a very safe car... I know some folks that drive like madmen/women and so far no accidents. But that's a lot of power to throw into fairly irresponsible hands. Buy an Accord or Camry 4cyl.

I would recommend a Nissan Altima. It's cheaper than your last car, but still has decent performance.

You might also might want to consider a stock Subaru Impreza, if you want to stick with something that has AWD.

Also, out of curiousity, how fast were you going when you lost control of the car?!? Judging from the wreck, it looks like you were flying!

aren't Altimas not so good on reliability?

also, all Imprezas but WRX are overpriced, in my opinion
Altimas have excellent reliability.

You were just begging for these self-righteous responses by saying you wrecked your WRX. All you had to do was ask for feedback on what car to buy. I'm guessing your real intention was to impress us with your driving prowess.

BTW: You seem to be a dangerous driver, so don't get another car . . . 😛

Thanks for the analisys, doc. Bill is in the mail?

I simply stated what car I had (and was used to) and that I need something new very soon and that it has to be different, for insuarance purposes. I also do not see how mentioning wrecking a car would ever "impress us with your driving prowess".

Again, thanks for your valuable input and priceless info on used cars.

$2.50, cash please. 😛
The car you get should be compatible with how aggressive your driving HABITS are.

imprezawrxwagon - not to flame you, but you should do your homework yourself now.
I would really suggest you to get a Volvo, or Accord...
There was some safty ranking few years ago, and it tured out that the Accord had the lowest probability of getting into rollover accident. Very stable FWD car. In regards to the Volvo (even the older one) well, anyone knows that Volvo is a benchmark of safety, so...If I would have been in the accident like that then my only choice would be a few years old Volvo wagon....
If you are more budget oriented, then the Accord should be your first choice.
For about $12.000 you should be able to get a low millage 2000 Accord LX sedan.

Volvos used to be the safest cars. Used to. Now others are just as good or better. And, of course, in the end, I will make the choice myself. I just want to hear opinions.

I still say Volvos are the safest cars on the market. Other manufactuers have made great strides in safety, but how many other places give you side and head curtain airbags standard?

Christ. I didn't read the whole thread, did he ever give an explination as to what happened?

It looks like he wrapped it around a tree or a telephone pole. :Q

Good thing there wasn't anybody in the passengers seat.

Okay, I looked at the other pics. What the hell were you doing driving in a forest? 😛

And to answer your question dude - tough call, for around $20k I'd probably get a used 3 series bimmer or maybe a few years old accord or maxima.

bimmers are out of the question because of the high insuarance price

i want something used, so that it will be cheaper to insure, too

Cheap insurance and cheap upkeep... go with a Chevy Impala. 3.8L v6 so has good power, but very SAFE 😉

I'm going to point out that had you lost it in a right-hander and someone (me on my motorcycle for example) was coming the other way at the right time you'd be looking at manslaughter in addition to a totalled car. There's only one place to go fast....a closed course. Any other time and you're potentially putting innocent lives at risk. You can blather on all you want about what a good driver you are, but you lost control, by yourself, simply because you were going too fast. Take it to the track from now on or take the fscking bus. I've seen enough people die here in town over the years because of people like you.

save the lecture for wife and kids. I never clarified what happned, nor I am going to. The autocross reference was meant to be humorous and in no way reflects what happened. Actually, a mechanical failure is being investigated now. And it really thrills me to read all the posts from self righteous people who never cared to ask if I was OK, or there was another person involved.

So, one more time: it is not certain, but appears that there was a machanical failure. Also, I'd suggest we keep safety lectures to the appropriate place, - a driving school. Also, let's try to talk about reliable, inexpensive to insure tro-three year old cars under $15K

You know what? I don't give a sh*t if you're OK or not. You stated (after being pestered for two pages) that no one else was involved and you were hauling ass. Hence my "lecture". You're an idiot for driving like that on pubic roads. Period. The only mechanical failure here is between your ears.

Mechanical failure?? 😕 Like what that would make you wreck like that, I would really like to know...

"You stated (after being pestered for two pages) you were hauling ass" I do not believe I ever wrote that. But believe what you will.

"You know what? I don't give a sh*t if you're OK or not", -

you know what? I don't care if i bump you off the road when you are on your bike in my next car. Won't even stop to check if you are OK. Hypotetically speaking, of course.

"You know what? I don't give a sh*t if you're OK or not", -

then why should anybody ever care about selfish ignorant rude people like you?

You know what? Next time you choose to be this rude, I won't care if i bump you off the forums. Won't even stop to check if you are a subscriber.

Sorry, I really doubt that. Take some responsibility in this life. Everyone fscks up from time to time. Sh!t happens. How you deal with that sh!t, and how you take responsibility for it, is what makes you a man or not.

Oh, I see. I guess I misinterpreted "the car hit brick fence column at serious speed and got severy damaged".

Nice. You can't deal with the criticism for driving like a 'tard, so you're going to threaten me?

You're the one risking the lives of others on public roads and I'M the selfish one?!?! Your high levels of smartness have failed you yet again, I see.
