Am I the only one who hates those stupid futuristic, unrealistic guns? That's pretty much why the only FPSes I've ever gotten into are Wolfenstein 3D, Counterstrike and Battlefield 1942. Thompson FTW!

Really, isn't the AWP essentially the same thing as the Rail gun? Essentially it's a one shot for a kill, slow reloading, highly accurate weapon with no delay between fire and impact.

The only thing the rail gun didn't have was a zoom, which could be fixed with some simple hacks

Don't agree with most of this list. I always found the gravity gun to be a bit of a gimmick in HL2.

I mean seriously...your first chance to really play with it, and it is a zombie level, with tons of circular saw blades just lying about to pick up and fling at them.

Granted, it was a fun gimmick...but at times, it seems that Valve designed HL2's levels around the gravity gun, as opposed to a story driven FPS.

Also, where is the lightsaber on the list from the Jedi Knight series...once I earned force powers and a lightsaber, I never used a blaster again.

I was gonna say "Laser Bomb!" but then I realized I've probably killed a lot more baddies with the pipe bomb than anything else.

Its just so darn convenient for groups of weak guys. I save the big rocket and the little rockets for tough flyers, but the pipe bombs get the highest number of kills every game.

didnt unreal 2 the single player game have that grenade launcher that was like a revolver and it allowed you to cycle through different types of grenades? i thought that was fvcking awesome.

This is completely unrelated but as I recall, Return to Castle Wolfenstein was the first game I played that had realistic weapons.

Probably the best situational weapon out there for fighting in close quarters (90% of Doom's environment). I probably relied on that weapon more than any other for kills/survival. Gravity gun kicked ass as well but I never got the satisfaction from it that I did with a simple, point-blank shotgun blast.

AVP had the same thing with its grenade launcher and that game came out in 99 I think.

There was another game I played that didn't get too popular called Shadow Warrior. It had awesome sticky bombs on it where you just throw them at someone and 30 secs later they blow up

AVP had the same thing with its grenade launcher and that game came out in 99 I think.

Both were excellent games with cool weapons.
Unreal 2 had a good assortment. The shotgun worked well even at medium range. The alt shotgun was insane.
The 50 cal pistol was sweet. As was the plasma rifle. Also enjoyed using the auto-turrets when available.

Alien Vs Predator 1 and 2 were good, both for the story and the equipment.
I liked the marine weapons, they were accurate to the 2nd movie and also had a good variety.
The predator weapons were wickedly delicious.

I'd think you'd have to include a sniper rifle of some sort on the list, solely for its effect on gameplay both off and online over the last 5+ years.

Nukes - I agree nukes should be on there. I loved nuking bases in starcraft with the ghosts.
Energy Sword on Halo 2 - that should not be on there ... that is one of the weapons in halo 2 that dummied the game down and a major flaw in the games design. It would be okay if it was single player only, but for multiplayer it doesn't help, especially the fact that there is only 1 per level and the weapon respawn system in halo 2 is even more flawed.

Also after playing GoW, I would have to nominate the default machine gun for it's sheer fact it has a chainsaw on the gun. Anyone who's chainsawed someone in GoW on multiplayer can tell you that Chainsawing someone never EVER gets old. Everytime I do it, it feels rewarding. I'm almost going to throw it out there and say the Torque Bow should be on this list too
