Anyone noticed that they have started putting ad breaks in really obnoxious places, a la Hell's Kitchen? "And the winner is...." [ad break] epic anti-climax and major annoyance.

This seems the norm for all reality type shows.
I dvr most of the shows and watch later. Only wait seconds for the outcome and I save 20 minutes out of an hour.

While I still love the show, this season pales in comparison to last seasons with the Uber-Chefs (and characters) they had on.

Totally. My gf had never seen this show before and I built it up too much based off of how good the last two seasons were (last season was off the hook, but remember the season before with stefan and whatever his name was? they both killed it)

heh just a re-iteration, if you did nto know it starts at 9pm this season keep that in mind! i spoiled last weeks by turning it on about 9:56 waiting for it to start and low and behold they are showing me who was voted off.

still watched the episode however i had no clue it was on at 9pm now, i had just been watching them after their aired previously.

Kenny seems like the favorite so far, Anto seems like a dick but can back it up

I like the european guy, but he's not nearly as gangster as Stefan

One of the problems with these reality shows is that the producers can make almost anything happen with editing. Why are they focusing on the lame "romantic" relationships amongst the chefs this season? Do not care! Care about food! And competition!

You think what's stopping you from going to El Bulli is the plane fare? LOL.
lol indeed. Plane fare is not what is stopping me by any means. A far larger obstacle than booking a table at El Bulli is actually finding a time that my wife and I could both make the trip. We struggle to coordinate a week of vacation twice a year, and if we ever manage to make it to Europe it'll be for a month so we can thoroughly enjoy the trip.

Regarding this season, I don't see why so many in here think Kenny is all that. Sure, he's good, but he's made a few missteps and has produced some relatively mediocre dishes. As cocky as Angelo is he's consistantly in the top and seems like the one to beat.

Was TC/DC on yesterday? Hulu has nothing for it. 🙁

/edit: Looks like there was a show...Bravo sux. 😡

Kenny has mad skills in some ways. He dominated the knife skills thing in the first ep, and he's usually doing 2-3 dishes instead of one. But like you say, he occasionally doesn't quite execute. Maybe a little like Marcel with less pretension.

i'm finding that with the changes they made to top chef masters, ie: making it more like top chef with challenges and such is that i have reduced interest in the regular top chef. the skill level of the regular chefs almost makes me want to skip the first 8 episodes to when the newbies that are required for the standard top chef mix are gone and serious contenders left. with master's even the beginning episodes were very interesting as everyone there was a great cook.

I'm still waiting for the next hung- i created a happy happy smurfland for my quickfire moment in this season 🙂

So I just watched the episode where they did the double elimination and why did they give away the prize to the "winners" of the dinner part?

Shouldn't that had gone to one of the teams that won the breakfast part as that was the first competition and instead they gave the prize away to the best of the worst teams?

they basically played for a "bye"

you can't say that they were the "worst" team cuz the other teams didn't cook dinner

with the editing, it does seem like Kenny is a better leader whereas Angelos is very Hung-like (aka douchey)

Yeah, didn't make sense. The best chefs for that day at least, had no chance at winning? The 'winning' strategy was to be the second or third worst team?

The reason I said worst was because they failed the other two times at winning in a way.

Just bothered me since they penalized the people that won the first round as everyone wanted to do that.

:shrugs:

To me, at this point in the game, winning = not going home

Kenny absolutely has awesome knife skills. But that's kinda like a guy who can do trick shots in golf or pool but isn't actually competitive with the real pros on the course or table. Kenny talks alot of smack about his skills too and doesn't ultimately back it up.

It's a shame. I really want to like Kenny as the favorite. He has great charisma/presence and those knife skills, but is hit-or-miss on his execution. I'm not sure his imagination is up to par either.

There's still time for a comeback though.

If I remember that episode they picked the best dish out of all three meals as the winner, which just happened to be one of the ones that cooked dinner.

WTF is with the mystery of the pea puree? Bravo has footage of everything, they can easily show Alex either making his own or stealing Ed's.
