Too fearful to build own computer, bought a Dell.

Bought a Dimension E510 with 3.4Ghz P4 (w/ HT) with 1905FP (19 in Ultrasharp) w/ 1 GB of RAM.

The monitor is what impressed me the most. No dead pixels at all.

I got the Dell wireless mouse and keyboard. I'm impressed with the keyboard, but the mouse is sub par.

For $1,200 bucks, good enough though.

I'm decided to wait until Vista comes out, and then I'm going AMD dual core.

And more one more thing, THIS COMPUTER IS QUIET AS A MOUSE.

My last computer sounded like a helicopter. I had this thing (the new Dell) sitting on my desk litterally one foot from my ear and I can barely hear it.

How long is your warranty JLGatsby, out of curiosity? That's a variable that affects the price of Dells a lot. I'm hoping you have at least 1 year?

Lame? Sony made some of the best CRTs out there when they were still selling CRTs. I'd take that monitor over a 2001fp any day.

Don?t price shop AMD systems after buying that Dell, you may just be disappointed if you do.

Oh come on man, build it yourself. It's not that hard at all. If a thirteen year old can do it like me, surely you can. But as long as your happy, I guess it doesn't matter.

Warranty is one year. That's one of the reasons I decided not to build yet. I run my business from this computer and I just don't have time to sit there and fiddle with driver/hardware/loose cord/whatever problems every week.

However, I will build my own right after Vista is released. And for those of you look down upon my mighty Dell, prepare to be owned one year from now. Gatsby is going to go all out. I'm saving that "sweet coin." Top of the line dual core AMD, 4 GB ram, 200W phase change overclocking, everything.

Out of my own curiosity, I opened the case to take a gander inside, good heavens, the heatsink in this thing is a monster. It's as big as a small dog.

With monitor? It was 1,200 with monitor. The monitor alone goes for $350.

So I paid a little more, big deal. It's of little concern to Gatsby.

I not saying I couldn't have, I'm only saying I didn't want to risk it. I needed a computer to operate my business from. This computer serves as my business and home computer. I needed something that wouldn't give me many problems.

DELL's are definitely quiet. Gotta hand em that.

Of course, my system would be quiet if I didn't have 5 hard drives & 5 fans :( Oh well.
