Do you have a fabulously fabulous Dell LCD?

Nope, I could buy one if I wanted, but my IIyama VisionMaster Pro 454 19" CRT suits me fine, as I also use it for TV.

It's a Triniton, and the games doesn't get less demanding using a CRT. Sure I'm not going to run more than 1600x1200, and 1280x960 looks perfectly fine for me, but then I can apply 4xAA or 8xS and then the system will be able to handle new games for quite some time.

But most of all, I'm a Hardware Enthusiast and I hade been looking forward to upgrading for 8 months, so I just wanted some good stuff :D

Triniton CRT = gaming/DVD/tv goodness. :p

I just don't feel it's the right time yet for me to shift to LCD when I have a perfectly fine working CRT.

Time to get the tape measure out...

*EDIT* By the way... listen to mech's recommendations on the Limited user account. You bought a Dell because you wanted something that just works. So do yourself a favor and take that extra step to ensure it keeps working.

I have built plenty of computers, and my new computer is a Dell as well. I kid you not.

Why? $$.

I bought a 9100 with...
Pentium 630
Win MCE '05
1GB DDR2
Dual DVD
X300 SE

It's a refurb with a 1YR on-site warranty. Brand new when I opened the box. I paid $400 after tax and shipping. I added another GB of ram, took out the x300 and added a 7800 GTX. All this for less than a grand total. Can't beat that, and it's a heck of a lot more quiet than my BYO's.

So if you are too afraid to build a simple system for home use until next year when you will apparently build a " SCSI, DUAL everything, O/C, liquid nitrogen cooled, blah blah blah"

Right.

You'll just buy an Alienware next time and call it a day. Your name goes well with your monetary flaunting. Except didn't Gatsby learn something in the end? :D

Also, he has a very very high end CRT which will not Ghost at all (the 2001FP does ghost in FPS games. I have one...you get used to it and it isn't "that" much but it still does it).

His CRT is greater than a comparable 19" LCD, for less.

Do some homework before you spend $8,000 on something you will not even notice. Someone will always have something bigger, better, badder, and new technology is always coming out. While you are at it, make a case out of gold. Now there is a feat that will not be topped anytime soon...

I never flaunted anything. I simply stated as to what I am going to do.

Throughout the thread, your attitude has consistently been one of "I know you guys scoff at the system I have now, but just wait a year, and I'll put you all in your place." Sorry, but that's the way you come off, regardless of how you intended to say what you said. If you don't want to keep pissing people off, I highly encourage you to sit back for a moment and think about what you've written before posting it. It's a good way to make sure you've not written something that will make everyone hate you.

I will be vindicated, nonetheless, when your ultra-expensive-I-need-larger-e-genitals workstation starts running slower than my lowly X2 not long after you've set it up, due to all of the spyware that you're likely to catch with your carefree attitude about computer security practices. MechBgon's advice about limited user accounts is very good; please listen to it wisely. Also, beware of unexpected attachments in email, and be sure that you have the Windows Firewall turned on.

I do not have a "carefree" attitude. I simply do not endanger myself online in the first place.

I got the Dell wireless mouse and keyboard. I'm impressed with the keyboard, but the mouse is sub par.

For $1,200 bucks, good enough though.

I'm decided to wait until Vista comes out, and then I'm going AMD dual core.

And more one more thing, THIS COMPUTER IS QUIET AS A MOUSE.

My last computer sounded like a helicopter. I had this thing (the new Dell) sitting on my desk litterally one foot from my ear and I can barely hear it.

160GB Serial ATA Hard Drive (7200RPM) w/DataBurst Cache
1GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 400MHz (4x256M)
256MB PCI Express? x16 (DVI/VGA/TV-out) ATI Radeon X600 SE HyperMemory
Sound Blaster® Live! 24-bit ADVANCED HD? Audio

Don't need a lot in terms of video performance. I don't game. But I'd like enough.

Yes indeed that is a very nice setup for 1200 dollars...now if you ever do decide to game you can sell your x600 SE and get a 7800GTX...and sell your 4x256M and get 2x1GB

It included the 19 inch Ultrasharp LCD. So I paid a little more? Big deal. I'm not on food stamps.

If you ever do throw in a 7800GTX, then I'd also suggest upgrading your power supply. From Dell's specs it appears to come stock with a 305W unit, and Dell doesn't offer any heavy-hitter GPUs in combination with that. PC Power & Cooling has a Dell-specific PSU selector if you get to that point. But it sounds like you intend to keep that system as just your office box.

Actually, if you do upgrade the GPU, you might look at the new ATI X1300 Pro, which would offer hardware H.264 decoding (soon, that is, they have to finish the drivers for that), something that might offer you significant bennies if you want to watch high-definition content on a 24" LCD. And your 305W PSU could probably handle that, XBitLabs.com has a writeup that includes power consumption and stuff, if you care to check that out more closely.

I almost certainly won't be upgrading this. This will work fine for one year until a build a new system. I will simply use this as my work comp only when the new one is complete.

Well, my Dell at work is uber quiet. Until its at 100% for over 5 minutes, then the fan fires up. Then My X2 3800@2550 with an XP90 is way quieter... You talk to me in a year, by then I will have 5 15k drives, and dual-core opterons in this box..

I guess you need a bigger epenis then me. I just want real hardware. I already can back up what I have, and don't need to prove anything to you.

Have fun with your delusions....

Really? What model? My 9100 with a GTX is still quiet after an hour of F.E.A.R.

What's that mean? Dell's are made by rednecks in Nashville.
