Tom Brady is the "greatest" quarterback since the merger.

Ooh. Rapelisthbeger made it three times.
How did he do this year? 8-8?
Brady never failed to deliver a winning season.

But wait, I thought winning regular seasons didn't count? At least that's what Pats fans USED to say when they weren't choking in the playoffs.

He didn't when he was injured, I think someone named Matt did that, what 11-4? How's that guy doing now?

MOVING TARGET!!

i don't know about "since the merger" simply because i don't have enough knowledge dating back then, but i definitely agree he is the best this century.

You mean the replacement failed to get the team to the playoffs like Brady did every season?

Pats fans love moving targets. A few years ago, we heard about how Manning was king of the regular season but regular season records didn't matter, it was SB/playoff wins. Now that the Pats haven't won anything meaningful in the postseason in nearly 10 years, Pats fans are trying to say regular season records matter.

Oh, now we're back to playoffs being more important than regular season records. I do wish you'd make up your mind.

Compared to the 2-14 record posted by Manning's various replacements (Collins, Painter, Orlovsky) last year, 11-5 is outstanding.

Matt Cassel was lucky enough to play the season the AFC had the suckiest teams. Its the year the west had two teams tied at the top at 8-8.
The AFC also had 5 teams with 11 or more losses that year.

And also in a perennially terrible division, which Brady has no-doubt benefitted from as well. The AFC North is the power division in the AFC. The rest all are relatively weak and don't have power divisions like the NFC (NFC North, East, South, and now West).

SYSTEMS make the skill players in the NFL.
QBs, WRs, even RBs to some extent.

The Patriots have an outstanding system.
The Packers have an outstanding system.
The 49ers of old (and new it seems too) had an outstanding system.

That is how you get dynasties. That is how you get back to back HoF caliber QBs. That is how you get WR cores that it doesn't seem to matter who is out running the patterns, they all put up pro-bowl numbers.

Brady is a great quarterback. Favre was a great QB. Rodgers is a great QB. Montana was a great QB. Young was a great QB. But it's their SYSTEMS that they played in that made them some of the greatest of all time.

The Ravens have the best defensive system in the NFL. Top 5 for 16 years, come on now. A shame their offense is always lackluster.

Matt Cassell actually did pretty darn well after he was traded. It was injuries that really hurt him. Then KC collapsed and the team has been horrible ever since.

Cassells first year with KC he had a sprained MCL. Then he had a very good second year throwing for just short of 3000 yards and made the Pro Bowl.

The next season he had hand surgery.

By the next season, 2012, the Chiefs had the worst team in the league by far.

Please do not remind me of the NFC north divison. Each year it is worrisome to see which teams will show up that year. Packers have never had it easy in the past decade or so. (and now the lions are a possible threat /sigh)

Each year I know the patriots will win the divison. They have almost 0 real competition in it. The Jets (fail) The dolphins (a slight chance) The bills (The hope crushers)

It is Kansas City. They could have Brady/Manning/Rodgers. The Ravens Defense. The Special Teams of the Broncos from the playoffs, and the Offensive line of whoever was the best.

And kansas city would still only go at most 8-8.

I may have to eat my words on Caldwell. He was an awful head coach, but he seems to be doing well as the OC. I also read an article that looked back over Manning's history and it showed that Manning's performance really took off once Caldwell took over as his QB coach in 2002. And here I thought Caldwell was just fetching his dry cleaning and drinks. 🙂

The hope crushers.. fucking DYING at that one!!

Yeah, each NFC division (with maybe the exception of the West, who is close) has at least 3 legitimate contenders and despite the Lions' idiocy this year, you can say the NFC North fields 4 legitimate contenders. The South and East also are pretty darn close to having 4 legit teams as well. The AFC North is the only one with 3 legit contenders and the AFC East only has 1. The Bills and Dolphins have been terrible and the Jets could be called mediocre on average the last 10 or 12 years.

Even if they had Lombardi as coach they would be 8-8.

Tony Gonzalez should get some sort of medal.

If Lombardi was there, I bet they would go 9-7, and half the team would have walked off because how hard he would have treated them.

No coach outside maybe 49ers harbaugh and Belicheck can i see being a "hard-assed" coach, it is just not the way coachs do things anymore.

Tony Gonzalez is one of the best TEs to play the game, but hes always... surrounded by poor or Falcon talent.

Teams like KC and Jacksonville are flaming idiots for not hiring Marty Schottenheimer. He would turn each into playoff contenders in short order.

I know... it was a much more soothing division mid-late 90s when the packers only had 1 team to contend with (though that changed yearly).

I mean...

11-5 packers
10-6 Vikings
10-6 bears
6-10 Lions

Scary division.
