That two year old is so screwed, that's just old enough to vaguely remember murdering your own mom. I wonder if he will remember it clearly?

Sad.

This woman carried a loaded firearm in such a way that a toddler was able to fire it, so I really don't have a whole lot of sympathy here. I'm generally in favor of concealed carry, but proper holsters should be used, and extra care must be taken when children are involved.

The right to own and carry firearms brings with it the very serious responsibility of making safety the number one priority. This woman failed on several counts here, and paid the price for it.
This.

Are you on meth?

I don't do drugs. Well, I'll smoke pot if people shove it my face, which happens more often than you'd think.

I would posit that you too are on drugs but most of your posts are just asinine. Not sure how drugs would help you there. My guess is you're a simpleton a la Jethro. Is that accurate?

And I own guns. Scary, right?

Actually, I post mostly from work. Don't tell my boss.

Don't ever worry about me snitching on you. That's a promise.
I don't know anyone who runs an underground car park.
But since you are here, what DO you shoot at? With all those guns you say you have?

Hang on a cotton-picking minute. Two posts ago (go check) you were bragging about your gun collection, now you are a victim of a mean and unfair society.;).
Seems having guns does not necessarily boost egos?

May I be serious for a trice ....
In all this multi-page nonsense about unreliable safety catches and light trigger pressures, there is no serious discussion about the reasons why, in the land of the free, a young chemistry graduate might feel it necessary to take with her, on a brief shopping trip, a tiny concealed hand gun. The gun with which her child killed her.
IMHO, this is not a 'gun issue' but a collective paranoia issue?
And it is a horrible tragedy and a cultural stain.

Watch the evening news. Rapes, murders, riots are at your front door.

I understand a round in the chamber. I do not understand not having a proper holster. But there's no way I'd ever let my wife carry in her purse. Hell, she can't find her keys or phone.

2008, the next county over.

Investigators believe the child was sitting in the shopping cart pushed by her grandmother, Aiken County Magistrate Donna Hutto Williamson. Police say the child pulled the gun out of Williamson's purse and accidentally shot herself in the chest.

It's part paranoia from watching too much TV news, but it's mostly a culture of entitlement that insists on pushing freedom past the point of irresponsibility.
This mentality is not limited to the gun crowd.

One of the few examples of a woman who should be nominated for the Darwin Award....

People need to teach their kids about guns from an early age.

That's why in my family I have the kids watch the family friendly "The Sound of Machine Gun Fire" with Julie Andrews, (NRA approved!)

Mac-10s in that .gif I believe.

Uzi's look different underneath and ahead of the trigger guard. that's the main noticeable visual queue to me.

What type of gun do y'all think this was? I didn't think a 2 year old would be able to pull the trigger on most of the guns out there.

Probably was cocked and ready to go. She could have even had the trigger modified so it required less pressure to pull back.

My 24yo gf couldn't even pull the double action on my .380 which is 10lb, and my m&p9 is DOA and 7lb. However, the single action on my .380 is only 4lb, and I could see that maybe getting pressed hard enough by even a small person, especially with a modified trigger.

This is very sad and terrible indeed.

I would have to guess that the safety wasn't on? Such a shame.

EDIT: also, shouldn't a hand gun be strapped to your body? It doesn't make sense to have it in a purse or someplace where it is not always accessible to you.

Was totally waiting to be corrected on the type of gun.
But I'm pretty sure they are actually AK 47s. Or maybe Glocks. ;)

Did I use any words in my post to imply that because you didn't recognize the type of gun that you were stupid or a noob?

I said I believe and then said what I think those firearms are...

I'm not 100% sure though and they might be uzi's they just look more like something else to me.

Durrr, can't have one of these threads with someone popping in to talk about the Darwin Award. Durrr.

Guess what? if this woman had better control of her firearm the mention of a Darwin award would not even have happened.

Whenever someone hands me a firearm and I check it. Whether it is the chamber or the cylinder. This woman was complacent. Yes it is perhaps tactless and insensitive to mention the Darwin award (and admittedly not exactly a fit) but no more so than a round ripping through your flesh and causing sufficient injury to end your life.

Whatever it takes to stop people from leaving anything to chance when they carry their firearms is my view.

You assume just because I perceive the situation differently than you that I irrationally fear firearms and don't know how to handle one responsibly.

Fine. I have a healthy respect for firearms and I do enjoy plinking every so often but it is not so much a part of my identity that I get my hackles up over criticism of how people handle their weapons.
