Waits for bike riders on this forum to tell you what an a-hole you are...
not a bike rider anymore, but what if it was a kid?
Another point for those trying to ban music from vehicles.
That's how I read it too. Which would make it the biker's fault, if there was no bike lane.the way i read it is that the biker and the OP were travleing in the same direction, OP goes to make right turn and biker goes to go around/pass in front of him and not behind

We bikers need your full attention on the road, thank you very much. Your coffee and music is not as important as someone's life.

I knew it wouldn't take too long....
I love that bikers demand the respect of cars on the road, but then the majority of them are perfectly fine with illegally weaving through slower traffic, running red lights, turning without signaling, etc. It goes both ways.

You were making a right and the cyclist was coming from your right?
Dude, that's his fault. He shouldn't have been riding against traffic.
unless im compleatly fucking this up the dude on the bike WAS riding with traffic
I just re-read the OP and I honestly can't tell which direction the cyclist was coming from actually. Can we get a clarification on that? Was he coming from your right or from your left?
I kinda doubt the OP could miss a cyclist hitting his Left fender since that would have been the direction he was watching for traffic from to make the Right turn.

I'm still confused. Even IF the bike was riding with traffic, bikes aren't allowed to just pass cars on the right because they want to. They are subject to the same laws as cars, they just get away with cruising between traffic, running red lights, etc. Of course if there was a bike lane on the right, that's a different story, but if it was just a standard road, the biker was completely at fault if he decided to pass a car on the right like that.
It's not really clear what happened from the OP though. Did he hit a guy on the road he was turning onto? Coming from the road he was on? Dunno.

Bike riders are frickin assholes. Obviously, a few exceptions, I know a great guy, he rides bikes, but these morons think they own the road, it's really aggravating.
Good for you for reporting it.
So much for this thread remaining civil...
Let the bashing of cyclists begin.
Oh, one more thing: Cyclists have as much right to ride on the road as you have to drive on it. Learn the law and show a little patience, the 5 seconds you are inconvenienced might just save someone's life. :|

Let see, from the OP very own words:
...."I didn't even know it. Music was fucking blaring, didn't hear anything"....."I realized that I could have possibly hit him".........."admitted total fault - told her that I didn't check to the right of my car , and my music was blaring"....."Poor guy, victim of my gross negligence "
OP admitted that he didn't pay attention, music was loud, he didn't realize that he hit the biker..and admitted fault. What else do you want?
Follow your own advise..read the OP again.. asshat.

As I said above, the situation here isn't entirely clear - but if it is as I read it, where the bike was illegally passing him when he hit him.....it's still the biker's fault.
I didn't know what to do - no witnesses. I phoned the police, a female cop came out and I explained everything to her, admitted total fault - told her that I didn't check to the right of my car , and my music was blaring.
I don't understand what you mean about preserving energy. It's ok for a biker to break the law because they want to maintain a constant speed? I don't think that holds up in court. If you aren't in good enough shape to stop and start, well, maybe you shouldn't be riding a bike?

F bikers. They want all the privledges of cars but also of pedestrians when it's convenient. They blow through stops signs and ride against traffic just like if they were walking, yet they also ride on the road and slow down traffic like slow vehicles and expect to be treated like a car. They need to decide one or the other, none of this combo platter hippie BS.

Yes, we can do that, and no we don't have to decide. You have to share the road.
