Do you get angry?
Do you get angry when you're drunk?
Do you get angry when you're sober?
Alone?
With other drunks?
With devout non-drinkers?

I can't say I agree with the all-or-nothing mentality. In my experience AA just teaches members to embrace another addiction in the place of alcohol - the addiction to Jesus. Look at one of the worst addictions facing first-world nations - the addiction to food. Moderation is obviously the only way to overcome this one, you teetotal you die. I think moderation would be a better approach to drug & alcohol addiction as well. You can use these substances, as opposed to abusing them.

Congrats nonetheless, you recognized a detrimental habit and broke it

First off, thanks!

I understand your thoughts but I don't agree. People with food addictions follow the same 12 steps as AA. The substance is not the problem, its our mental, physical and spiritual flaws that make us turn to those substances. Once I didn't have alcohol to self medicate with, I had to face my fears and actually fix my life.

Now I do believe that I could go have one drink and be fine. I could more than likely do that once or twice and nothing bad would happen. But that would open my mind up to alcohol being an option when I get stressed/pissed/sad/whatever. That's when I would get a case of the fuckits and I would be off to the races again. But since I completely abstain, I turn to things that are actually healthy.

We'll leave Jesus out of this one. He's my homie.

By the grace of God

 Stand up and shout to the world. This is something to be proud of.

After I quit I found I had more money and watching the other drunks was actually more fun. I cannot tell you how times I saw a fight break because of booze between people who were good friends sober. I went to party once and there was this idiot dressed up in ninja grab, complete asswipe. Since I quit drinking and I was the only sober one, I went on the beer run with a couple of other people. When I pulled in the driveway I heard heard someone screaming and sounds of branches breaking. Next thing I knew a huge black thing thumped onto my hood and slowly rolled off with a thud onto the concrete driveway. The idiot dressed up as a ninja had climbed up into a pinetree that stood over the driveway. He was going to jump down when we pulled in and challenge us to fight with his ninja sword. Except pine trees as we all know have lots and lots of branches and he had a ninja sword on his back. The stupid shit jumped off the branch he was on (about 20 feet) and hit every branch on the way down with that sword hitting branch on the way down spinning him around throwing him into more branches. By bouncing off every damn limb though probably though saved him though from a broken leg or worse.

Who in the fuck jumps 20 feet out of a tree onto concrete let alone into the path of an on coming car.

God gave Jesus the ability to turn water into wine, so I'm thinking God is probably quite the alky himself and not the best role model for recovering alcoholics. Just sayin'.

Nice coin! All I got was, well, nothing (other than being sober) :) I didn't go to AA though.

I'm drinking a PBR

...
something is wrong with you.

I'd rather have the lack of flavor of a Natty than whatever one could would call that of PBR.
:p

I thought about saying that but ended up not.

My version would have been lengthier no doubt, so I'm glad someone else finally did. :D

lol...I could care less. God removed the urge from me a long time ago.

I got to my first AA meeting a little early. I had 2 or 3 days of white knuckle sobriety and was kind of happy that I was going to get to talk to people that had beat the problem. Well while we were sitting there waiting for the meeting to start, the old timers started talking about their favorite beer and even telling tricks about how to freeze them to get a better buzz. I had been OK until those assholes started talking about drinking. Turns out, the answer isn't avoiding the problem, its learning how to deal with it.

Cheers guys!
