congrats! there's a lot more to life than parties and drinks...
god has nothing to do with it
Congrats to you!
Today marks about 16 hours for me. I have a ways to go before I catch up!![]()
shhhhhh.
Ha, got you beat. 36 hours since my last sip of nectar.
Congrats Rudeguy. I thoroughly understand first hand the impacts of alcoholism, and quite well understand addiction in general. I've rode close to the line before and in general have an addictive personality, but thankfully alcohol does not seem to be one of the substances that has had much of an impact on my mind. It has, but I can control it.
Sometimes it takes a little bit of perceived sacrifice to beat your flaws down, and for those that can do so successfully, well shit... more power to you.
There might be odd perceptions from people who do not understand the reality of the situation, but know that someone, somewhere... and probably someone very close, has absolute respect for you showing them that you can bounce back from failure and regain control of your life.
Sacrifices... they are what makes life an absolute bitch. But coming out on top, knowing you've seen absolute misery and failure, is what makes life far more enjoyable.
Yea, I don't understand addiction because I'm not addicted to anything. I've tried everything in College and while it was good fun, there was never a pressing desire for something from a physical standpoint.
I'm not an alcoholic and I don't drink at social events due to health reasons.
It sucks but it's not as bad as you imagine.
You can have more fun not drinking. It all in your mind, so if you want to have fun, just think you're having fun and before you know it you are.
:hmm:
Congrats!!! Definitely an awesome achievement.
MJinZ: get a clue.... alcoholics can't drink at all when they are on the wagon. in fact, one drink could send an alcoholic spiralling back into the shitstorm that got them into AA in the first place.
I can't say I agree with the all-or-nothing mentality. In my experience AA just teaches members to embrace another addiction in the place of alcohol - the addiction to Jesus. Look at one of the worst addictions facing first-world nations - the addiction to food. Moderation is obviously the only way to overcome this one, you teetotal you die. I think moderation would be a better approach to drug & alcohol addiction as well. You can use these substances, as opposed to abusing them.
Congrats nonetheless, you recognized a detrimental habit and broke it
