I agree that having to manually initiate syncs is kind of annoying, I wouldn't call the entire system "busted" because of that though.

No, that's when 2.41 was released that had trophies. Sony did not require games to include them until sometime in 2009.

Ah, I see what you mean. I misunderstood.

And yeah, I wish the trophies just auto-synced as you got them or something. Or in the background. It doesn't need to takeover my whole system.

Achievements/trophies only mean something to me if you get something extra in-game, not a stupid gamer score. I don't care about trophies or achievements.

i think its just the way it is incorporated into the dashboards.. i cant explain it. trophies just dont seem as important on the ps3. i think it comes down the the sync things. freakin annoying. so i cant be bothered everything i want to see trophies to wait for that to load. i want instant pop up like xbox.

that is the tihng .. i can't explain it either, i don't really have a solid reason.

but regardless...

achievements > trophies

I don't care about either of them.

The only games where I care about achievements are games like TF2 and SC2 where you get shit for the achievements.

Personally I prefer trophies. Achievements have varying degrees of difficulty so half the time something just isn't worth the points, and when you've done them all you can have anywhere from 1000 to something weird like 1750. I prefer having a platinum trophy for completing a game 100 percent rather than a random string of numbers, idk why.

I'm not sure what it is. Trophies just seem a lot more ghetto to me for some reason. Plus when I log into xbox live I'm constantly reminded of how awesome I am because my score is always staring me in the face? Heck I don't know.

I third that motion. I think they're just there to extend replay values. Games that give you a trophy for something stupid, like finishing the tutorial, need to die now.

I agree, trophy loading takes way too long. But don't really care either way. I see a trophy pop up, cool I guess.

I wonder how many of you are just trying act like it's no big deal, but really do get that special feeling when you unlock an achievement. It's a beautiful process.

I've had a PS3 for awhile but I've yet to get a trophy since I haven't bough any games that have them (because I love that achievement sound!).

i am wondering the same thing myself.

i mean personally i don't CARE for either of them. i don't give a crap what my gamerscore is or getting achievements at all. i don't go out of my way to get them 99% of the time, but sometimes I do because it is a feeling of accomplishment and you have a seal of approval saying you did it

like collecting orbs in crackdown, finishing all the trials in sf4, beating 10 people in a row online in ssf4, etc.

the ones i don't go out of my way to get are the ones like 'throw a pass in madden' or stuff that doesn't really give any sense of accomplishment. i don't give a crap about those, granted you will get them w/out caring.

however, when i see that little score and sound pop up on the screen, regardless how stupid the achievement is, i still get a little sense of happiness and accomplishment when i see that. no clue why.

trophies, i don't care at all, and have never gone out of my way to get one.

after i beat a game i look at the achievements and hmm i can do that. i usually dont go for the hard ones or 100% stuff.

but for example. there was a achievment is assains creed 2 for put 5 dead bodies in a pile of hey. so i was like oh.. i can do that.. went into the game found a pile of hey and killed 5 pople around it. i just like doing the simple task... they are almost like little rpg quests to level up my avatar... i dunno..

maybe it does come from the fact that i like rpgs to a degree and achievements i can view they as mini simple quests in a game.. some also give you like mini challanges to try and do.

or another example is lin red dead redemption.. the achievment for putting the woman on the tracks an watching her die.. these a fun ones and also they give me something to do that i otherwas would not of thought of.

i started playing the game and never really tought of putting someone tied up on the tracks. but i read it and was like "wow thats sound fun anad really funny to do"..

so i can also say they may suggest fun things to do in the game that you may of not thought about doing.

  • Too Hard
  • I can do that in 3 minutes...

Also secret achievements are stupid... who's with me on this? I just go look up the full list online anyways.

I agree mostly. Like in Red Dead, the achievement to put a woman on the train tracks is secret. WHY?

Ones that could spoil the story should be hidden though. If you're going to get them by default just for playing the game then it doesn't matter if they're hidden.

Agreed. Spoiler ones need to be hidden, though some games get a little over confident with what they think is a spoiler. God of War 3 for example keeps most of its story trophies hidden, which is fine... but when the spoiler is "defeat Zeus" it's pretty pointless. It's the end of the series... we KNOW we have to fight Zeus. That was the whole point of the game was to get to Zeus.

It really is no big deal. I never pay attention to them, don't look at my gamer score, past achievements/trophies, etc. They could remove them entirely and I'd never miss them. The only time I've ever cared about a "score" so to speak is in NFS: Shift when I'm trying to do better than the laptimes my friends have.

I don't have a PS3, but I agree with this.

I think the whole gamerscore is stupid as well, in fact, I'd rather have a lower score to show that I don't waste my life trying to complete objectives that are sometimes mindless (think WoW).

Achievements/trophies only mean something to me if you get something extra in-game, not a stupid gamer score. I don't care about trophies or achievements.

Here's the difference to me.

I don't try to get trophies or achievements or care for the score BUT, when I get one I like to immediately go see why I got it. I don't think you can do that with PS3, at least not easy.

But I've been buying all non multiplayer cross platform titles on the PS3 for awhile now so it doesn't really matter
