1) Only DSL was available in my previous residence, only cable is available at my current residence
2) I preferred DSL for price/performance. DSL: 1.5 mbps down/128 kbps up Cable: 768 kbps down/ 128 kbps up.
I happened to be right by the node at my old place, so downloads were always consistent at about 1.5mbps.

3) Both

Currently, both. However, I live on the outskirts of town, so getting DSL may be iffy

And which one did you choose?

1)Cablemodem
2) DSL

Cable. I chose this for 2 reasons. First, it was the first broadband availible. DSL was just availible near me about 9 months ago. Cable was availible back in the spring of '99. Secondly, it's sort of a long-awaited thing. Back in '95(or '96) when Cnet's TV show "Cnet Central" did a piece on internet connection speeds(compared diffrent modem speeds, explained them in simple terms using different sized PVC pipe, ect), they did a quick preview of cable modem technology that was just begining testing. The minute I saw the demo of the cable modem loading their home page, I knew exactly what I wanted.:p

I see that most of yall chose cable.... is it because of the price or performance or both?

See above. Also, for the price, cable is faster. DSL is about the same price, but the uploads are capped at around 768Kb/sec, while cable is 1.5Mb/sec. Even though cable "shares", I'm in a poorer area of town, so my neighbors are unlikely to get cable modem service en-mass.

both are available and I chose cable. The reason is price/preformace. We live in an area with mostly familys and older couples so the cable service is very nice. To get the same with DSL we would need to pay about twice as much, though the faster upload would be nice

I have cable at both parents houses.

Both cable and DSL are available in both areas.

We chose cable because in the beginning, cable WHOOPED the hell out of DSL. Now COX is getting all slow n shyt..

Both

I had both, but now I have DSL. No real reason... they had a promotional deal that saved me a lot of money so I went with them. THe performance is pretty much the same, but cable is faster in uploads... which I dont use that much now.

cable and dsl are available in my town, but I live outside the city limits and only cable is available.. but the Verizon DSL here is much more reliable than the Cox cable. however, for the price I pay for 1mbit cable I could only get 768k DSL.

so if dsl was available at my house, I am not sure which I would choose but probably the dsl for its reliability. my cable goes down every few days for a few minutes to a few hours at a time

I've had cable here for about 2 years, before that I had DSL. The DSL was extremely reliable for about a year, until SBC sold their operation to Prodigy and the performance suffered. :| After that I switched to cable, and it's been much more reliable...
