I first only had DSL at my place, which I ordered. About a year later, I had Comcast Cable modem, which I also got. I now run the both of them for about 2 years now.

Both are available
Had cable initially but we were splitting it illegally (in a frat house kind of situation) so then we got business dsl (7100/765) which we can split up legally.
BTW, anyone on Verizon DSL notice that service is terrible tonight?

Which of the following is available in your area?

3) Both

And which one did you choose?

1) Cablemodem

Why? It was the best bang for my buck. For $40.00 a month I could get 1.5mb/35KB and I was able to have it installed 2 days after I moved into my apartment. I've seen DSL take up to 3 months to get installed, you don't get those speeds and pay the same price or more.

Niether, Cable modems aren't offered by my local provider, and I am just out of range of DSL (something like 90ft). I actually have a dish, downloads are awesome, upload blows

Given the choice id still choose cable. Too many horry stories with cable not to mention poor performance issues, cable companies going under, etc

Dude what about Northpoint and Rhythms? Those DSL guys went out of business first.

I have both available in my area.

I had Verizon DSL and hated it because of all the problems I had with it (I had the prototypical nightmare experience with Verizon). I switched to TW RR cable and love it. Much faster, definitely more reliable. I will never go back to DSL.

Cable for me. DSL was available, but cable is much more reliable where I live (boston, ma) and faster :)

1. Both are available in my area.

2. I went with DSL for the higher upstream (384k vs only 128k)

1.
Too for from Node to get DSL, so I got cable, luckily..

2.
Cable

Performance is great here, 300K/s/30K/s 300 down, 30 up. The only thing is that they say in the agreement is no http servers....but they only blocked port 80 ;) Although, I'd NEVER disobey them....:)

only dsl, so i have dsl.
but i have been on cable at previous locations and it was better (before AT&T came along and capped the bandwidth). Nowadays, I guess I'd go with DSL rather than deal with the capped cable lines AND sharing those lines with other people.

Both
Cable

I would choose DSL because the ISP likes to fack with people, but DSL is so much slower and more expensive.

cable = shared access, so wild variance in actual bandwidth (depending on conditions in local area)
DSL = dedicated

cable is more widely available b/c the access was easier initially. DSL had a standards battle and took a while to pick up steam because it was not offered orignally as a complete package.

Both are always on

Different leels of service for DSL, each with a guaranteed minimum speed

DSL is not available everywhere because you need to be within a certain distance of the Central Office
