Titans & GTX780's at 1.4Ghz with unlocked voltage control

Just got my 780 FTW.
Installed 10 minutes ago.

How do I read what kind of memory I got.
Samsung, Hynix or Elpida...??

Taking it apart always works 😛

Download MemoryInfo 1005 and run the standalone exe.

I guess its just for AMD cards.

You can generally tell what vram you have based on the offset it will hit, but not always but it doesn't really matter what brand you have, only what offset you can hit :ninja:

I thought I had crappy Elpida RAM when I couldn't even do 6400 MHz, but turns out I have Hynix. I tightened the baseplate on my card a bit and now it's stable up to 7000 MHz.

I'm okay with this. 🙂

Stock I got 66.3 FPS in Valley with my 4770K at 4.5 Ghz.

According to GPU-Z i had the max boost around 1124 Mhz or something.

Will try overclocking and report later.

Does this reset after power cycling? Would be pretty annoying to forget about it after restarting just to have the GPU fall flat on its face.

I don't know why I didn't think of this before, but it's pretty easy to get this to run each time you cycle the power.

It's pretty easy let me step it out here quick if you're interested...

1. Go to your MSI Afterburner folder
2. In the main folder with MSIAB.exe create a text document
3. Open the newly created text doc and and put msiafterburner.exe /wi3,20,DE,09
4. Close the text doc and rename it to LLC.bat
5. Right click LLC.bat and create short cut
6. Cut your LLC.bat(Shortcut) and paste it into your Startup folder

C:\Users\Balla\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

Each time you reboot/restart windows it will now run.

So I think I found the max on this card with my current cooling setup. I am pretty sure I can get 1550Mhz+, but a custom loop would be needed. This by no means even close to being stable for daily use, but it's still fun to see how hard I can push the card. I have a very basic 750w PSU, which is probably stupid to do this with. I saw over 800watts from the was with this single Lighting overclocked. For comparison sake, this card at stock settings pulls 315-325 watts from the wall in the same benchmark. After efficiency, I am thinking the card alone is pulling over 500-550 watts -- Freaking nuts. I didn't think one card could pull this much. I know It would pull less with a custom loop with lower temps, but hot damn... Too bad my card wasn't blessed with Samsung memory.....

That's a pretty manly overclock. Thread carefully though. I would be scared to go much higher though. Surly that kind of voltage for any length of time has detrimental affects. Maybe not...

Do you have any comparison numbers to see how well the clock speed is scaling?

I ran the Tomb Raider benchmark and only saw a 6-8 FPS avg gain going from 1320/1656 to 1502/1656. A good memory clock is needed in order to see good scaling in most games with a GTX 780. I would never run 1.45v for any extended amount of time, but I wouldn't think twice about 1.35v for gaming. The power delivery system on the Lightning is incredible. 16 GPU phases and 3 memory phases, even @ 1502Mhz this card didn't blink running these benches, of course my cooling setup wouldn't keep it cool enough to game on. I only wonder what it would do with a full water block?

Yeah - pretty nuts. Couldn't believe it when I watched the Kill-A-Watt hit mid 700's then spike to 800+ often... Pretty funny 181% power limit 😀

I wouldn't be surprised if a minor cpu bottleneck is holding you back from time to time.

I know even 1 overclocked 780 ti gets held back in certain spots in quite a few games on my 30". The metro LL benchmark is very cpu limited for me with 1 card let alone that I have 2. Even when I use my 4k screen I get the same behavior.

check your gpu usage #'s.

I have noticed Metro LL does exhibit odd GPU usage. I wasn't sure if this was because of a CPU bottleneck or the game engine itself? The CPU doesn't get that high in that game that I have noticed. Besides that, they only other games that I play that I know have a CPU bottleneck are Hitman AB and Crysis 3.

When looking at cpu usage you have to look at per core load not the cpu as a whole. A lot of utilities report load differently so you really have to be sure what it is actually telling you. Current cpu's are definately too slow for current highend gpu setups.

I use MSI AB to monitor core temps are usage. If you look in the screenshot I posted above you will see it in the bottom left corner.

I can get my reference GTX 780 to 1.2 Ghz on 1.2 Vcore. What do you guys think is reasonable voltage to put through on a reference card? My max GPU temperature has been 45 degrees Celsius so far.

With a full cover block 1.3v should be completely feasible for 24/7 use. Maybe even 1.35v?

Stupid vDroop is killing me, I was running Heaven on a loop and I saw the voltage drop from 1.2 to 1.162 and the graphics driver crashed immediately. Guess I have no choice but to flash skyn3t's BIOS.

Also I have Samsung memory and I can push +500 easily. So I was at like 1215 core/ and 3500(7 Gbps) memory. I think I will push it more but I have to get my core stable first.
