TIL: Building a clock in Texas is illegal

The English teacher did what they thought was right. Then the police invistigated. The kid said it was a clock. wich the police confirmed was NOT a bomb. They even said it looked like a dismantled clock.

At that point they should have ended it. No bomb found. he never said it was a bomb and always told them it was a clock.

Where this goes into the twilight zone and everyone has problems with is that they arrested him and suspended him. That shouldn't have happened.

Oh and they are still thinking of charging him. though that won't happen now that its in the national news.

It depends, I hear there is a new Kayne West/Kardashian controversy brewing soon.

Why ?

Surely they have the right to get worried about a suspicious device, which might be a bomb ?

It is just an innocent mistake.

As far as I can tell.

Other people seem to think that it is a racially motivated attack on the person.

If a young, white girl, walks into the school, with something that looks, much like a viable bomb device.

They will still contact the authorities.

E.g. Maybe a terrorist group gave it to them, and asked them to take it to the school.

Sorry, not buying that shit. If the student were a Caucasian, fair haired girl or even boy carrying the case that contained whatever they wanted in it, no one would have batted an eye I bet. "Oh, there's Sally with her suspicious suitcase of makeup. HI SALLY!" :awe:

But it has already happened.

E.g. In the link, the young girl, brought the suspicious device into the school.
(In this story, it may have been a real bomb as well).

no, they were compeltely moronic and tossed any shred of common sense out the window. the kid told them it was a clock. hell, in the time all of this transpired, the kid could have showed them the changing of the minutes!

an innocent mistake does not land someone in jail.

Not the same. A grenade is a grenade is a grenade. It has a familiar construction and a singular purpose.

This kid brought in what most people would consider a "craft box" like my wife has in a closet with some circuit boards and wires and such. There's a leap of stupidity to automatically assume that a metallic briefcase/craft box is automatically a bomb.

HOLY SHIT! This thing is ticking! EVERYONE GET OUT! PULL THE ALARMS! SAVE THE CHILDREN, RUUUUUUUUUUUUNNNNNNN!

a innocent mistake? no not at all.

Being arrested and suspended is NOT a innocent mistake. NOT when they KNEW it was NOT a bomb and they are thinking of charging him with a crime. This could have potentially ruined his life.

sure they would contact the authorities. the school has no real choice. Nobody is saying anything about that (though its still fucking idiotic).

From reading more about the story, there are potentially 2 different "charge" possibilities.

(1)..Real bomb
Agreed it wasn't

(2)..Fake bomb

The thing is, was he intending for it to be and look like a fake bomb ?

That is for the Police/authorities to decide.

As long as their decision to prosecute or not, is made without racial bias.

Then it should be fine.

Yes, his arrest etc, is potentially damaging to the boy.
But it would be just the same/similar, if he was incorrectly arrested/charged with a number of other crimes.

We all could potentially be incorrectly arrested for something.

There are lots of things which potentially look like viable bomb devices.

Ironically. I think the real terrorists, try to hide them in everyday objects.

E.g. Who would have thought that a kitchen pressure cooker, could be a bomb.

Or a shoe ?

Or even a small container of drinking water (now banned on most/all flights, if >100ML, I believe).

so let's just ban everything, because anything could be a bomb? https://xkcd.com/651/

Hence, the requirement to use common sense and stop being a scared little bitch about the world around us.

I agree of course.

Though all it takes for there to be a threat is for someone to feel threatened. That's today's reality that people need to live within and where the student failed.

I somewhat agree. It is a difficult balancing act, between being 100% safe, and living our normal lives.

Sometimes people will call the authorities on something. It then turns out to be perfectly harmless.

Sometimes people will ignore something. Which later turns out to be a real bomb, and ends up injuring people, or worse.

The real problem, is the horrible organisations, around the world, which seem to be very determined to undermine Western values and society. But probably any society which is different to their society/religion.

The crazy/ironic joke, is that if they are left amongst themselves. E.g. Syria. They will still fight and kill each other. There does not seem to be any kind of solution, as they always seem to come up with crazy reasons, why they should be killing people.

EDIT:
Syria is a very complicated situation. So maybe it was not the best of choices as an example. I only partially understand what is going on in Syria. There are so many outside influences to it as well, such as Russia/Turkey/Iran etc. Anyway to avoid going off-topic, I will now stop.

No picts of actual "clock", no actual charges, full on usual make news out of a nothing local event media spin.

What is the point in taking your made in 20 min "clock" to school?

The actual events, the non spin story may never come out.

did you take off your white pointy hood to post that?

I haven’t heard any shred of evidence that the reaction was due to caution, for no indication that any attempt was made :

- to evacuate the premises to protect students,
- to contain or isolate the device,
- to call civilian or military bomb squad experts,
- to have firefighters on stand-by.

The only glaring evidence is that an attempt was made to give a kid a criminal record.

You missed this part:

Simpson had five to six ounces of Play-Doh in her hands, State Police Maj. Scott Pare said in a press conference this morning. The Play-Doh could have been mistaken for plastic explosives.

Chick was an attention whore. She got what she wanted.

Lucky to be alive in Massachusetts...
Star Simpson, 19, had a computer circuit board, wiring and a putty that later turned out to be Play-Doh in plain view over a black hooded sweat shirt she was wearing, said State Police Maj. Scott Pare, the commanding officer at the airport.
[...]
She was arrested about 8 a.m. outside Terminal C, home to United Airlines, Jet Blue and other carriers.
A Massachusetts Port Authority staffer manning an information booth in the terminal became suspicious when Simpson - wearing the device - approached to ask about an incoming flight, Pare said. Simpson then walked outside, and the information booth attendant notified a nearby trooper.
The trooper, joined by others with submachine guns, confronted her at a traffic island in front of the terminal.
Geez. She's lucky to be alive. What in the world was she thinking?

IF they feared it was a bomb they sure went about it the wrong way. it's rather telling that they had no belief it was a actual bomb.

The "what if" arguments are fucking retarded. go down that road and it goes bad.

the kid did NOTHING agianst the law and nothing that was he should have gotten in trouble for. it's a major over reaction by the school and cops.

Only mistake the kid made was thinking the school would give him a pat on the back for his work. He learned a good hard life lesson in this.
