Tiger Tank vs. Modern Day M1A1 Abram?

Just wondering what you guys think how they would fare fighting each other?

I hear the tiger tank's armor is just ridiculous and everything would just bounce off.

No contest. Abrams has computerized stability, can move faster, shoot farther, is equipped with nv and ir, and shoots DU shells.

Depends on whether you can fit 10000 Chinese cavalry in the Tiger.

You can, just give it time. How much can an average tiger consume and digest?

But I heard the Tiger Tank have like 100mm of solid steel for armor.

Tiger I has Armor 25?110 mm
Tiger II has Armor 25?180 mm

The Abrams is protected by the British designed 'Chobham armor', a further development of the British 'Burlington' armor. Chobham is a composite armor formed by spacing multiple layers of various alloys of steel, ceramics, plastic composites, and kevlar, giving an estimated maximum (frontal turret) 1320-1620 millimeters of RHAe versus HEAT (and other chemical energy rounds) and 940?960 mm versus kinetic energy penetrators.

The tigers would get absolutely annihilated.

not to mention the Abrams can shoot long before the tigers and just destroy them before they get a chance.

So the Abram have an effective armor equivalent 900mm of steel? The tiger tank's 88mm cannon would bounce right off?

In the Persian Gulf War, Abrams tanks survived multiple hits at relatively close ranges from Iraqi Lion of Babylon tanks and ATGMs. M829A1 "Silver Bullet" APFSDS rounds from other M1A1 Abrams were unable to penetrate the front and side armor (even at close ranges) in friendly fire incidents as well as an incident in which another Abrams tried to destroy an Abrams that got stuck in mud and had to be abandoned.

It has been reported that a single M829 round pentrated and destroyed two Iraqi T-72. Apparently they happened to be in line, the 'silver bullet' simply punching through the first tank to hit the second

The Tiger would not have a snowball's chance in hell.

what's next, an F-35 vs ME-262

Well, technically, the ME-262 might have enough firepower to take down a F-35 if it attacked first. Planes dont have much armor on them and if the F-35 gets hit somewhere sensitive, the ME-262 could win.

It all depends though on if you give the F-35 all of its technology such as radar and air to air missiles.

woah, had not heard either of those stories. sweet jesus that's awesome. and HEAT rounds are just pure sexy. 🙂

LOL. It's all about the armor. If you put some Relikt or Kaktus armor on that Tiger... then maybe. Even then you need to do some major maneuvering to get a shot at the back of an Abrams.

Edit: Any tank experts here can comment on the M1's armor? How does it stand up against Kontakt 5 or newer variants?
