Thousands flee US Drone attacks

According to Pakistani officials, the attacks have increased since Obama took office, with 81 dead. I am glad to see Obama is keeping the heat on these guys, and not being your stereotypical liberal dove.

The only problem is for the people who call Bush a war criminal. Striking a soverign nation and killing civilians, without being at war, is on the wrong side of international law. And as of now, it is Obama doing it. 13 killed yesterday.

of course, in obama's situation we at least have the quiet approval of the sovereign psuedo-democratic regime. If pakistan really wanted it to stop they could 'stop' it.

Direct strikes against compounds, 0 innocent deaths.

I'd say this is going pretty well. It's almost as if someone actually had had a pinpoint on locations instead of random bombings.

Huh, Pakistan is bombing those areas too, not just us. We are helping their government deal with this problem, not violating its sovereignty.

Exactly.

Im not bashing Obama. Like I said, I applaud this. I would have CIA/Delta Force in every country hunting jihadis down. (Not that i'm saying our CIA isnt already extremely active against radical Islam).

Im trying to point out the hipocracy. Obama continues the same policies as the Bush admin, yet the only Democrats I hear bashing Obama are the far-far left sites.

I don't recall the Dems having a problem with going after the Taliban and OBL in Afghanistan and the Pakistani border areas. After all, they were directly responsible for the 9-11 attacks.

Iraq, however, is a completely different story for the Dems.

To play the "well if X did it then why did only Z get a bum rap" ploy just doesn't work in this case as a tacit agreement with Pakistan was already in place and
AFAIK, (and I may be wrong), the liberals in this forum didn't raise a fuss about this particular situation.

That has to be a gross distortion of reality, unless one defines all Pakistani residents as automatically guilty, regardless of age or sex.

And besides that, its a good part of the reason that Nato now occupies a moral standing below the Taliban in the tribal areas of Pakistan. Its quite a feat, but with an attitude like JOS's, its actually possible to manage.

At least I am not someone who has delivered continuous dis improvement for eight out of eight years running in Afghanistan and Pakistan.

You can't even bite off what you have, before you promise you can bite off way way more than you can chew. In a battle of hearts and minds, your tactics and attitude end up being a poster child for AL-Quida recruitment while alienating everyone else.

As for Obama, if he wants to try GWB types tactics, its not hard to predict he will have GWB results. But Obama is just starting, there may be hope for Obama not being as learning disabled as GWB was.

No, I am pointing out YOU whole heartily embrace a failed strategy that is failing and failing badly, and worse yet endorse a strategy that will fail even worse.
I am sure there are far smarter soldiers in Nato, but if the commanders endorse a failed strategy, little can be done when most of the normal soldiers Nato are smarter than you are.

At least in Iraq, it was some in mid level command in the field that did the initial reaching out and talking to Sunnis that later resulted in a big reduction in violence in Iraq. The surge actually had little to do with it. That alone should tell you that kill kill kill is not often the answer.

1) The Pakistani government is allowing/supporting such strikes

2) The 546K number seems to be very distorted

3) If the Taliban were to be left alone, do you think they would play nice. We saw what they had done to Afghanistan and currently what there ambitions are for Pakistan.

4) Pakistan will have to decide soon what they want for their country. Are they going to cow to the Taliban or stand up and control their land. At present they have been doing both and it is not succeeding.

I totally agree with what Bush did at first in Afganistan - THAT is where Al Qaeda is. The ONLY thing Bush did wrong was divert our military to Iraq, which had zero to do with 9/11. Glad Obama is going back to where we should have been concentrating on all along.
