I hope it's all resolved before my trip to NYC the first week of January!

with a college degree, and working in nyc, i started at 35k. no pension, i had to pay for healthcare...like i said before...had i know they made 55k, i would have been a conductor instead of going to college...
Same here on all counts.

what who cares what you are making its an irrelevant argument describing what your comm degree from mediocre university landed you after school. You can make 65k in construction without a high school diploma.

OMG some people are so pathetic. The news guy was just saying how some people who normally take the subway to work were asking how to get to work above ground -- they don't know. Really inspiring to know how brainless most people are.

And starting salary for a cop in NYC is $25k, which is much LESS than what these MTA guys make. (It does jump to $35k after 6 months, but still, even that is paltry.)

As for your LI cop comparison, yeah, don't get me started on that. Those salaries are out of line as well.

your missing my point. What you earn is not a relevent argument to this situation.

You're not seriously comparing these MTA-skilled workers with skills/requirements necessary for cops are you ? Nevermind the risk involved. I know people who went through the process and don't qualify to be a cop here. Besides, it's only detectives & similar skilled/experienced making more. Not even close to "everyone" such as a union. There's a difference.

Some of these MTA workers can't even speak proper English... what is their skill ? The ability to hand out stuff ? The lowest skilled worker is already making as much as the highest skilled among them... and they want to raise it for everybody... at a higher rate than inflation. Does that not say greed to you ? If the skilled want more, don't join a union. I see it as an excuse for the less skilled to piggyback on others.

The union wants:

  • An 8 percent pay raise per year for the next three years
  • A lowering of the retirement age from 55 to 50
  • No additional healthcare contributions from their workers

I'm all for pay raises and fair compensation, and I respect the union's right to negotiate, but those terms are absolutely absurd.

yeah but there's a demand for something like construction or working for sanitation that's why it pays so much. I dont think something like driving a bus or a train should pay much cause not only do you not have a degree but you're also easily irreplacable

yay, which could potentially double your base salary. i know some mta traffic police who earn 60-60k make close to 100K in the end from OT bonuses.

Why did you mention what kind of degree and a mediocre school ? Because it matters ?

if the averager worker is making 30-35k now after the raises the average will be 37k-45k

that does NOT seem so absurd.

They drive a subway or sit in a booth, and collect money.... How much do you expect them to make?? They need to understand that they are easily replaceable.

fvck off, I just got a job in nyc with 63K sallary and I hold two degrees from michigan :|
The average sallary on wall street for out of school kids is 55-60K. You're telling me the guys that sit in the booths deserve to make 50K and 8% raises?

8% annual raise is UNHEARD of anywhere...
