After discussing this with more people, I am starting to see how clouded my viewpoint was due to yesterdays events and my own limited experiences in the past.

I still think that kicking them out or giving them amnesty are bad decisions, and am researching worker visas and such out of curioscity.

This is what a comprehensive guest worker program would be great for. He would pay taxes in exchange for being allowed to work here but because he is not a citizen, that money would go to the Us government or state governments etc.

No offense Goose, but I agree with the guest worker program... and then after that the person should be deported after a certain amount of time (1 year possibly). Then they can apply and wait in line like everyone else, we have rules in this country for a purpose. While I am sympathetic to your fam, it is only because I know that our US borders are severely lacking. Had we protected the border adequately, illegal immigrants wouldn't have made it here in the first place. Illegal imm's are a humongous drain on our society, just look at how much one hospital lost from treating illegals: 14 million. Please try telling me that doesn't contribute to the 30-40% healthcare increase in premiums this year, and I will say you are wrong.

EDIT: You know what, I just spent a good amount of time writing one long ass rant. But I think my breath probably would be wasted here, so I'll save it.

Many of the people who have posted comments are ill informed, and for the time being there is nothing that can be done about that, so I've withdrawn my comment.

One last thing though, I think calling that guy an idiot was uncalled for OdiN. You can't deny your history, which is completely relevant in this debate.
