This is what you get if you pay $60K USD for a first class flight ticket on Emirates

AA only flys the refit two class 777-200s which have the new 1-2-1 seating just like the business class cabin of the 777-300ERs between DFW-LHR.

That's good, I missed a BA connection at ORD once and they bumped me from BA to AA business. A middle seat in intl business should be a crime.

(Like BA's domestic euro class should be a crime)

anything other than 1/2/1 should be a crime.

There are still a few out there I think but AA was supposed to have them all done this year. It's really easy to tell the difference from the seat map.

All I ask for is coach with extra leg room. I flew coach to HK with the the cheapest airfare for 14hours and it felt like death because there was no room for my legs.

Side question, are 747s supposed to be better than the 777s?

Depends entirely on the airline IMO. The old 747's are really old and antiquated IMO, the 747-8 is slightly better but still a far cry from the A380 (for me at least)

There are some carriers where the top deck is used for economy D😀:

at least with the 777-300 ER's you're guaranteed a relatively new airplane.

I prefer the 747 on BA, probably just because of nostalgia. Upper deck in the corner is my favorite business class seat they offer, I have even turned down an op-up to F when I just wanted to sleep.

I will get to try J on AAs 77w soon, which is supposed to be nice, but otherwise the 777 just has more of a big bus feel to me than the 747 (of course, I realize both are just big busses)

Check out the retiring UA business class 772 LAX to Syd. 2-4-2. We're on the third to last flight of the 772 on that route although still waiting for my upgrade to I to clear from X.

Flight back will be my first on the Dreamliner

Haven't had the chance to try out a BA 747 but have heard good things. Almost booked a flight two days ago but I remembered why I never get to use my AA miles on BA. $948 in fees for two BA seats vs $11 on AA metal D:

Changing my flight. American Airlines opened up a ton of first class availability of their own metal today.

Was able to snag this route
SNA - DFW - AA First
(3 hour layover to enjoy the Amex Centurion Lounge)
DFW - LHR - AA First on a 77W
(3 hour layover to check out the free spa and BA Galleries Lounge)
LHR - FCO - BA Business

And I land in Rome 2 hours earlier at 2pm

All of this for 62.5k AA points and $100 in taxes. I save $392 vs booking a BA F flight.

On the way home I have an Aer Lingus Business Class flight from BCN - DUB - LAX.

Bring on summer!

lucky bastard.

I was able to snag Premium Economy on United from LAX -> EWR with my points. WHAT'S UP NOW HUH?

Might have to join the riff raff on the way back though, cuz Premium Economy markup is +$100. Would rather spend that on a 90 minute massage when I land.

Haha. I wouldn't waste points on domestic first class anyways.

No kidding about AA opening up premium cabin award avail....was hoping to get to Australia this year but the redemption options are somehow even worse than they were just a month ago.

Maybe Barcelona or Paris instead...or maybe both.

Awesome!

Damn so many award flights even opened on my route back home. Too bad I won't get another bonus to my AA miles for 2-3 months..

Thanks for posting that heads up! Damn - I need more vacation time...

Yeah their Australia space really comes in unpredictable spurts.

They keep opening up new awards every day I check so far. There's a more direct flight for myself I found but I think I'll keep what I have since I like checking out the lounges and Rome on Sundays are dead anyways.

Booked rt's ORD-MIA-BCN and ORD-DFW-CDG for later this year. The TATL legs are on the old 777 flagship first product but we'll survive. Doubtful either will see swaps to the new 777-200 configs since AA is apparently having delivery issues with the seat manufacturer.

Still sitting on a good pile of miles but tough getting away for more time. Though HKG could be fun...

Things I learned from this thread: I need to travel for work more often.

I once met a guy in business class whose job was to fly all over and inspect or consult at power plants. He flew long haul at least 30 times a year.
