You can probably buy all that crap for $5k, even pay a hooker to serve you and buy her a stewardess' outfit. Best part is that there's almost no chance your seating area will hit the ground at 300 miles per hour.

that's all fine and true but I do in fact need to travel 27.5k KM round trip next month, so this reply doesn't really mean anything.

I can also get a bottle of Dom P for $150 at Costco or spend $1500 at a club but that's not the point.

Pawn the ticket and use the proceeds to hire an Indian or Chinese national to go in your place. Wait, hire two!

Actually flying Toronto-Singapore soon, 23 hours with 1 stop :(

Yeah, right around hour 14 you're going wish you had a shower :D Last time on the second flight, I watched a 2 hour movie, followed by the entire Hobbit trilogy, and still had an hour and a half to spare.

Singapore

I don't need to be pampered nor have luxurious food and amenities. I just need room to walk around and kill some time. Sitting in the same damn position for 3+ hours is agonizing. And getting up to shuffle into the 1/4 bath doesn't count. I'm so glad I don't have to travel for work. I'm so glad I only travel ~once a year at most.

TBH, I was unaware of the luxury possible in commercial aviation. My idea was that scene in Jerry Maguire. Better food, that's it. I guess if you're rolling in dough, why not. That guy seems to be having a great time. Figure he's one of those tech millionaire/billionaires. Myself, I can't imagine enjoying myself as much as he obviously is flying in that style.

You guys are thinking like a peasant. People that fly this service have millions of dollars floating around. They probably earn 60k in a week just from interest.

So for them spending 60k on a ticket is like us spending $100 to get the best seats at a movie theater. Life is short, why waste it standing in lines or eating shit food if you don't have to.

Or be someone on the level of a Google exec, and just buy the whole darn plane.

Some day we'll have high-speed rail in the US.

It might take another 300 years, but we'll get there. The rest of the world will be commuting via teleporter by that time, but we'll get there.

Amtrak train was alright in coach. I wasn't too happy with it the first time around because I was expected to be sleeping. (Yeah, took the train for work due to scheduling issues versus flying.)
I don't sleep well with other people in the room, much less a moving room with dozens of people.
Lots of room though, and you got your own big window with a curtain, and a 120V outlet, and a seat that really reclined without crushing or disturbing the person behind you. And you don't have to worry about smacking your head into a low ceiling. And the luggage allowance is quite generous. And "security" consists of "Show up and get on the train. We'll assume that you're not here to murder everyone."
The attendant would ask for your destination when you got onboard, and stuck a Post-it note above the seat with that information. At each stop, that person went through the car to check if anyone sleeping needed to get off there.

You just don't have to give a damn about getting somewhere on-time. It gets there late, and it takes longer than scheduled. The rates for private rooms can fluctuate day-to-day, and their site doesn't have any kind of "flexible schedule" ticket searching. Other than that.......yeah.

Good thing there is a bar and a lounge on an Emirates A380 ;)

Jennifer Lawrence got a queen or king-sized bed on her plane... The pictures look like poverty seats in comparison.
