This is Izzy! She's a Cockapoo, and has been an absolute joy. Next Saturday will be 1 month with us; we decided to try again right away since we really want one. This time we did go with a breeder and got her history and a health guarantee and everything.

These pictures are from her first time back from a groomer; I'll have some more after we take her again next weekend.

Gallery updated with more pictures! She's now just over 6 months old.

OP

Person's dog had a litter
I reserve one; it's perfect breed for us (Cockapoo/Pomeranian, 2nd choice over Cavapoo)
Stay up till 1am last night getting stuff for the puppy and cleaning the house
Suppose to pick up tonight
Text her this morning to confirm
Given to someone else

I don't think I've ever had a stronger mix of feeling angry/devastated in my life.

Since it'll most likely come up, here's the thread about me trying to get a dog:

EDIT 1
So, a friend of a friend of a friend etc who heard about what happened is apparently a breeder of cockapoos. Had this little girl waiting for me last night:

EDIT 2
Bailey passed away this morning (4/13) from what can only be assumed was a heart attack. She just turned 4 months old. I am dying.

Since someone asked what happened:

We aren't entirely sure. I am guessing it was just a birth defect that we only recently brought out. I was playing with her outside and we came in afterwards. She drank a sip of water but then started clumsily running in our dining room (sort of normal for her). Then she peed in the dining room, which she knows not to do (we bell trained her) so I took her outside and put her on her leash while I cleaned up the mess.

When I went out to get her she was just lying on the ground near the door (again, normal when she wants to come in) and so we went inside. She went and laid down in her kennel (where her bed is) which was sort of not normal, but we've been training her that it's a good place for naps. She let out a pretty low cry/howl which was abnormal, but she's been recently finding her voice so I thought nothing of it. I did some dishes in the kitchen, went in to check on her, and she was just...dead. Thinking of all the signs, it makes sense (heavy exercise, then not eating/drinking after, the peeing inside, just lying around, being pretty lethargic which I accounted for being tired).

That sucks. Is this person a friend or family or just a random? I would be pretty pissed if it were a family member or friend.

What breed? You can always try the shelter or any of the bazillion rescue groups that show up to Petco/PetSmart on Saturdays.

Look for a previous thread I started about dogs. I'd rather not get into this again.

A cavapoo? Never heard of it, but yeah, you're not usually apt to find a designer hybrid breed at the shelters.

That sucks. I'd be pissed too. I'm going to be honest though, a breeder unwilling to hold the puppy (after deposit I assume)...or use shitty text spelling is probably a crappy backyard breeder anyway. I'd search for someone who seems more legit. Hopefully local so you can do a home visit and all that, then reserve a puppy from their next litter...it's worth it to know you're getting a puppy from a sound and responsible breeding environment.

She wasn't a breeder, her dog just had puppies (wasn't spayed).

Oh. Well, yeah...irresponsible person in the first place, so it was always a gamble. No less disappointing though, I understand. Cockapoos are probably a more common designer breed. Surely you can find a local breeder if you're willing to spend the money.

Did the dog literally just have the litter recently? If so, it might be best if you didn't get a puppy from them. I'm pretty sure there's a lot of developmental growth that goes on in the first 8 to 10 weeks IIRC and the mother and the littermates are the ones that teach social behavior during this time. Depriving the new pup of this learning could impact its behavior down the road. Perhaps people with more knowledge might be able to confirm.

Somebody has been coming to the local dog park with their cockapoo puppy. In the last several weeks, it's already attacked four different dogs. One person picked up their dog and the cockapoo was still hanging off the dog with his teeth til the the dog owner kicked it off his dog. The puppy owners are completely oblivious and blamed it on the other dog. When your dog has been involved in four attacks in such a short span, time to look at how your training your puppy. The breeder obviously cared more about the money than the temperament.

Exactly. Temperament by genetics, socialization and general care and handling for those first few weeks is super important, and any good breeder would ensure that's all taken care of. Then, of course, the new owners need to put some actual effort into properly socializing their puppy and teaching it manners.

Fuck people like that. If your word and possibly a handshake don't mean shit to you, then go fuck off and die. If you don't have morals and good values, what use are you to anyone? Used to be that a person's word was important to them and, to many of us, it still is. I don't know how people can operate if they lie about shit without thinking twice about it. Oh, srry, no longer available. Well, fuck you then, you said I could have it, go get the damn thing back!

Or it could have been an accident.
