I find it hilarious and think women who assume men are going to cover the entire bill without even discussing it with them are asking for trouble, but it still doesn't sit well.

Look, the fact is that you simply don't eat/drink/take what you can't afford unless someone else explicity states they will pay for it (and even then you are taking a risk). If a girl is going to consume 300 dollars worth of food then she may assume the guy is covering her bill but at the very least should be able to afford her meal should that not be the case.

Yeah.

Why? It should be assumed that you pay your own bill unless stated otherwise. Why should he be expected to pay?

because that is the custom of dates. you as a man show a woman a good time. if she wants more then you want to pay for. dont go on a date. women are sought by men, its just how it is. they, their looks, their youth, their time is a valuable commodity. if you don't want to pay upfront, be honest and settle for what you can get. its a mating ritual.

That's fine. I guess you would agree then that men, being primary wage earners, should make more than women? That's just how it is.

well i think the only reason the ritual is like this is because for most of history, women couldnt get jobs and really didnt have money, so a man had to pay for the women. In modern times, women can go to work and make money like men, so they should be able to pay for themselves on dates.

Yeah. That equals an instant breakup from any potential SOs, I'd imagine, once they find out about the site.

well i guess you think they should keep their own last names too when marrying?

they still have the children. its the nature of the thing, it is unequal. and it is a gesture of selfishness to not pay for the food of a woman you potentially will spend your life with. a bad starting move.

if you are poor it is not hard to simply say you cant go to X restaurant because you can't afford the 20 dollar drink. just deal with it.. bleh. thats all he had to do when she brought up that place. just say dude..that 20 dollar drink is uncool... and if it falls apart, well so be it.

that has nothing to do with it. equal pay for equal work.. work is work, not a social custom. and well the cost of being pretty-makeup/dress and all that other stuff is costlier then what men spend in general.

I disagree. Men being the primary wage earners have very much been a social custom in society for many years of human history. Why would you marry a woman who takes advantage of you from the start?

assuming you are a spineless tool that can't speak up when discussing where to go on a date.

Heh. Spineless? I would want a woman to like me for who I am and not for my money. If she has a problem with me not willing to pay a $300 tab on the first date, she can go fvck herself. If she EXPECTS me to pay without even getting to know me simply because I am the guy, again, she can go fvck herself.

in the 1940s...

times have changed... women are way more equal this generation than they have been in the past.
they can and do make as much and in some cases more than males..

there are alot more "Mr. Moms now in the world with women being the breadwinners...

Now dutch first dates are very common and in most cases expected.

being back in the dating scene after being out of the game since 1989 is quite a shock.. alot has changed.

I'm a gentleman and I like to try to follow the old ways..
and these days we just arnt that well respected..
some girls take offence when you open doors and treat them with respect.. taking it as a sign of thier implied weakness..
others love it..
same goes with dutch.

First date with my wife, she grabbed the bill at dinner. I think she might have paid for ice cream later, too. She's a keeper. ;)

While a woman shouldn't assume a man will pay for their meal on the date, what he did was going out of his way to make fun & mislead these women. What happen if he told them the dates will be dutch? Likely couldn't get someone to keep him company for the night if his life depends on it.
A small minded man, with petty cruelty that will not amount to much.

He did speak up. He chose a small irish pub, it was her decision to go to a rich expensive hotel.
