Yeah, but if that really was the issue then why didn't he just tell them up front that they were going dutch? Why did he always wait until she left the table to confirm with the waiter/waitress about the separate checks? Why did he encourage her to buy the expensive Scotch without saying something like, if you can afford it? Why did he find the misunderstanding so amusing?

well why do women have to ASSUME that the guy is paying. women ASSUME waaaaaay to much when going out on a date with a guy. i date a lot and im only 20yrs old and of course i pay most of the time but when i had a serious gf for like 2 years she paid a lot of stuff also. i just think women should at least bring money on a date and not expect a guy to pay for everything. the guy didnt mislead her, she ASSUMED he was paying and you know wut assuming does. he said that if she wants it just get it, well isnt that true, she chose to drink that much and just assumed

You don't think the fact that he purposely made sure he discussed and explained the fact that he wanted seperate tabs when she wasn't there or listening misleading?

I agree. He asked her out and should've made it clear that he wanted her to pay for her own food/drinks. He said that even the waitress didn't understand at first about starting the tabs.

I don't feel sorry for the woman about apparently not having the money to pay for herself. Who would go out with someone on a first date and not have a credit card or extra cash for emergencies - a/ka as "mad money."

Look, the fact is that you simply don't eat/drink/take what you can't afford unless someone else explicity states they will pay for it (and even then you are taking a risk). If a girl is going to consume 300 dollars worth of food then she may assume the guy is covering her bill but at the very least should be able to afford her meal should that not be the case.
