W@H Tech: Power off and power on your PC and let me know when its back at the logon prompt
User (like only 5 seconds later): Okay done.
W@H Tech: You powered off/on your PC that fast? Are you sure you turned it off and on?
User: Yes, it went black when it was off and came back to the logon screen when I turned it on
W@H Tech: Are you sure you powered off the COMPUTER and not just the MONITOR/SCREEN?
User: Oh i thought the screen WAS the computer. Are you talking about the IBM box?
W@H Tech: <shoots self>

DOHHHH!!!

Another time, a user was trying to click a button with the mouse by ACTUALLY touching the mouse to the screen apparently. Although I heard this third party so I dont know if it actually happened.

Yep I've had this happen many times. Worse part is some of these people work at a hospital.

If ever I'm diagnosed with something locally, I will demand a second opinion. I really don't trust our local hospital, after all the really dumb calls we get.

Actually had a nurse call in because she got the PC infected while googling for medical information during a surgery. It only dawned to me after "wait, they are relying on google to perform a surgery?"

Then there's people who don't even know the difference between a router and a modem. Modem = the device we put in when you got setup, router = the device that you own and paid for. Without even knowing what they do, it should not be hard to tell the difference. I love it when I have someone's modem status up and I ask them to reboot and they say "done" and it shows "modem uptime: 34 days". Suuuure, how about you try rebooting that again dumbass.

As much as it's job security, these things waste our time.

Helpdesk is for when a system goes down, or when something technical goes wrong, as well as password resets, etc. The worse is people who screw up their computer so badly they cause some of the most bizare problems. Now the power one is easy, but I've seen some really messed up software issues take a while to fix because of the user totally screwing around.

Then you always get the people that call like twice a day to change their password because they keep forgetting it, yet they blame us "why does this keep happening?" Sometimes I'm bold and I just say it "because you forgot your password".

Where i work we have users calling us for help on how to do their job. This usually only happens around holidays when a good portion of the office is out.

lol that's sad. I can't recall people calling us for that, but I've had people call in for pretty weird non computer related stuff, such as MRI machine questions. We even had a ticket about a freezer once lol.

My dad got someone in a panic where he worked; he turned off someone's monitor to save power while they had gone to lunch. They came back and just about went insane because he'd "turned off the computer without saving anything." He demonstrated then that turning off the monitor doesn't affect what the computer is doing. The user still didn't seem to think that it worked like that.

Close your mouth and your brain shuts down, right? ;)

Well I just got a helpdesk call that her computer just turned off and won't turn back on. So I go up and surely enough it was off and wouldn't turn on when I tried the power button. I peaked underneath the desk and could see that she's been messing with the power strip. I was barely able to hold myself when I noticed she unplugged the power strip from the wall outlet and plugged it into itself.

she was hoping to invent perpetual power.

lol exactly one day after my "perpetual machine" reply, to the minute!
Adul was hoping the post would go back in time, in effect, plugging it into itself. Then a spatial rift opens up and Spock pops out, punches you in the face, probes your wife's spatial rift (Pon Farr, you know?), and then jumps back to his own reality.

Seriously, this stuff happens.

Now if you'll excuse me, there seem to be some other problems to be addressed.

"Oh ok, it just came back on."

user: "My computer wont turn on"

** spend time on phone troubleshooting **

tech: "I'll come see you right now"

....

tech: "Oh you got in?"

user: "No, see? I get this error when I try to do a LMX transaction in CTSVD."

I get this often. People who try to use acronyms to sound all smart and get some error then they say it's a totally different problem, such as not being able to turn on the computer. I sometimes wonder what goes on in user's minds when they put in a ticket or call the help desk.

I had a ticket today sending a screenshot of an email with pictures:

"I can see pictures in emails. Please advise"

wtf?

LMFAO now THAT is a new one!!! Hahahah

You should have told her to close her eyes and see if it solves her "problem"

Edit: I was presumptious in my post that it was a woman? I just assumed it was a woman because, well, oh come on we all know it was a woman! It was a woman right RS?
