Thinking of getting 2 7970 in CrssfireX.

I'm currently running 2 overclocked GTX 460 1GB in SLI but they are gettin' long in the tooth so to speak.

I was wondering if my i5 2500K at 4.5GHz would be a bottleneck for my new 7970s.

No, your current CPU even at stock wouldn't bottleneck two 7970s.

Your cpu won't bottleneck it and you will really have a good upgrade with the 7970s in crossfire.

Skyrim is a horrible example, it bottlenecks anything, and that's due to its own coding.

OP, your 2500K will be fine for Crossfire, especially at the 4.5GHz shown in your sig :thumbsup:

edit: yes, what everyone else has said about your resolution lol, I hope a monitor upgrade is coming with the video card.

The v1.4 patch fixed the CPU bottlenecking issues.
I'm not sure if they released the stable version yet, but the beta has been out for a while.

I didn't see that the OP is using 1680x1050 resolution, for that i think your currently slied 460s are good, not much need of an upgrade there.

Solid, but better yet, get a better monitor and a 7990 when it comes out in a month or two.

I just built a system and put a 580 in it. I intended to go to a 7970 when they were released, but since it wasn't such a stellar improvement, I'm awaiting the 7990. I get the performance of xfire and don't have to worry about running power to 2 cards.

No. Buy a new monitor first. If you get 1080p or equivalent, then you probably would just need a single 7970. SSD might not be a bad choice either; love it for general system speed-ups + game load times.

My single 7970 does great at 1600p. If you're at 1680x1050 or 1080p, you'll be fine with one card.

2 7970's is not enough to run Crysis 2 on 5760x1200, nor Arma 2, nor many many other games. Due to the high amount of microstutter on the 7970's in crossfire many people will be demanding 60 fps as well rather than 30.

Yeah, I was just making fun of people who say you need to have multiple monitors to take advantage of such a setup. Personally, I'd never run multiple monitors for my gaming PC. Just don't like it.
