What sucks is that GM doesn't put the I6 in there. It would also be nice if they put that engine in the Colorados. Since they put a V8 in that trailblazer chassis as the premium engine, why don't they make the 4.2 I6 available in lower models.

Heck, the H3 should get the 4.2 regardless. That much money should come with some decent power.

I guess ideally they would put something like the 5.3 V8 in there, that seems like a great fit. Probably some powertrain concerns with that, though...

If you do get that thing then please get the hell out of the way for faster moving vehicles.

I'll move out of the way, I don't have any problems moving out of the way for the guy burning up the highway because when he causes that accident (...because he thinks that he's a better driver than everyone else because he has a vehicle that goes from 0-60 in under 3 seconds and for that reason he thinks also has a license to be an idiot...) I know I'm going to walk away from the wreckage in my larger vehicle because I ran that idiot over when I caught up to the flaming wreckage.
(FYI - I have the same issues with people riding crotch-rockets also... they think they're allowed to be stupid because they have one)

My tombstone will not read "Well... at least I got 40 miles to the gallon".

SUV's may suck up gas, but I like to think of that extra money I'm spending on gas as life insurance. I'll take a larger vehicle over a smaller one any day when it comes to safety.

****----BACK ON TOPIC----****

You've all mentioned other options so here's some responses....

FJ cruiser - I don't want to feel like I'm going to go offroading while I'm driving. I did that with my wrangler with the lift kit and oversized tires. I also don't need a vehicle that is fully submersible, I don't want to pay for a side feature that I don't ever plan on using. On a side note I think they're fugly.

Jeep Unlimited - I mentioned it before that I wanted to move away from Jeeps, yeah they're great offroad vehicles, but when you're on road... which about 99% of the time I am, they're a loud ride. I like having conversation with my passengers in which I'm not shouting to them, unless they've taken care of that, I'm not intereted. I don't think the Jeeps age well structurally... the engine will work until I decide to stop putting parts on it, fantastic IMO.

Jeep Patriot - I've never actually seen one of these... are they still a concept vehicle? They look kinda cool though.

Jeep Commander - I checked the specs on these as compared to the H3, and they're not actually that different. If these had better gas mileage I would probably take one of these over an H3. However if I do decide to go offroading, I like the H3 more.

Hummer H2 - This is just too big of a vehicle for me. I feel off-road wise that this vehicle is as inferior as you can get... yes they have "HUMMER" as part of their name, that doesn't make them great off-road. They're aesthetically hideous, a box on wheels, and the milage on the H3 is better.

What I have had some interest in is the Jeep Liberty, I looked at that a while back as an upgrade to my wrangler, my girlfriend owns one and I've driven it, I need something a little bigger and that's my hesitation with those. But that's the only other vehicle that has sparked any interest other than the Jeep Commander, Dodge Nitro and the Hummer H3.

If you like the Liberty, you'll also probably like the Nitro - there not all that different. But I like the Nitro myself and am going to go test drive one when I get the chance. Its the best thing in its class and I really like looks - looks more like a guys car than the other small SUVs.

My buddy recently bought an H3 to replace his Chevy tahoe. In comparison with the Tahoe it has a much nicer ride, gets better mileage and is far more capable off-road.
Epa mileage is 15/20.
Sure it's not the quickest thing on the block, but what's your hurry?
Some people recommend Land Rover, think again, they are totally unreliable.
I've ridden in an Xterra, not a great ride, busy.
Jeep? See Land Rover.
Toyota FJ, probably a fine vehicle, too bad it is Fugly.
Oh, and my buddy is 6'6" and can fit in his H3.

i agree with most of what you said but you didn't say anything about the nitro. i think the xterra is an ugly car as well, and agree that no one interested in a suv is worried about speed. the nitro is suppose to have a great ride go go along with styling.
