If you have the money to throw away to buy it and more to throw away to keep it filled up, then go for it.

I see many women driving H3s.

Why not a crew cab 1500 ?

I hate foreign cars.

That is too bad because the Nissan Xterra and Toyota FJ Cruiser are both better vehicles. They handle off-roading better and will last 2x as long easy.

The Xterra is built in Tennessee. While Nissan is a Japanese/Franco conglomerate, they do provide plenty of good paying jobs here, where Ford and GM are laying off people in this country, while expanding operations in Mexico and China. Jeep/Chrysler/Dodge is a German owned company.

There are obviously a lot of people posting who have no clue about off roading. The H3 is not a girly vehicle. It's quite capable offroad. In fact it's the BEST off road vehicle you can currently buy, except for the Wrangler Rubicon. The H2, because of its bulk, is not a capable off road vehicle. It weighs over 6000lbs. You can even tell by looking at it- its vertical dimensions are gigantic so it's tall but doesn't have that much ground clearance, and it looks fat. The Humvee is a capable vehicle, but only in certain situations. Its width makes it too big for forest trails, and its independent suspension is prone to breaking.

SUVs are cool.

The H2 is a disgrace
The H3 is laughable

Now I should add, the H2 is a nice piece of machinery, but if you don't off road, you are buying it as a status symbol. At that point, you just look stupid to me. And the H3, well .. that thing is just stupid.

It's a waste of money. I guess that's all I have to say. Reading thread for kicks.

Cocur ... I've always wanted one, but I need a bed for all the work I do on my home.

On that note, what about a Chevy 1500/1500HD/2500 with king cab and a 6.5 foot bed?

Now that is a man's truck!

For a high-price SUV it seems underpowered and overly small on the inside IMO.

Dunno the specs of the FJ cruiser, but I think they look better than the H3.

I wouldn't. The REAL hummer was the sh!t. The H2 was just a piece of sh!t. The H3 is a rolling piece of excrememnt of such magnitude that I can't even find the words. Save your money and buy something else. Just my $.02, though. It's your money and you're the one driving it. You decide.

I appreciate all the insight thusfar... while I don't necessarily agree with all of you, I appreciate your opinions.

just an FYI, I don't really plan on doing much off-roading... even if I was... an H2 or H3 wouldn't be my first choice.
I've gotten my off-roading out of my system with my Jeep Wrangler.

I like the rugged features of a hummer, it reminds me of a Jeep... with some luxury style. I'd go with another jeep, I love it ...in the summer... as I live in upstate new york... it tends to get a bit cold in the winter with the Canvas top no matter how much the heat is turned up. As my Jeep has aged it's deteriorated... canvas top = ick. The jeep itself has developed leaks under the dashboard. Admittedly it's going to be 10 years old next year... I guess you could expect that with any vehicle to some degree.

I hear the H3 feels horribly under powered. Isn't it a 5 cylinder? If you drive it and aren't unhappy with the power go for it. You obviously don't have a problem with its gas mileage if you are even considering it so test drive it and if you like it go for it.

the FJ is smaller on the inside.

here goes my schpeel.

H3 is a very nice truck, it is more luxurious than the FJ and the Xterra.

it has a much different ride on and off road than those, i forget exactly how MT put it (they reviewed the three of them)

the interiors are so vastly different.

The H3 being pretty nice, and what not, the FJ being on the lowend, cheap chinsy plastic (imo)

there is a price difference (FJ is cheapest, H3 is most expensive)

The H3 is on the same platform as the colorado, but it has 2 more frame members, and gets all HD gear, and a different rear axle, for the locker, and new suspension

i have not read a review of the new engine, but i remember the old engine required the 5 spd for best results (and even then they werent pretty(

it really depends what you are looking for, luxurious interior, hummer look, or the FJ port-o-potty look. or the Xterra which is a semi mix of both.

go sit, and test drive ALL of them, i dont care if you hate foreign vehicles, test drive them.

their reliability has been fairly good they have sold like hotcakes and their future is certain. the H4 will come (NAIAS for the prototype) and the H3 will have an SUT version fairly soon, on a stretched platform, with a crew cab, and bed.

I suppose it's a masculine car, but it's not something I'd want to drive. I want something low to the ground that I can swing around corners and possibly feel the road I'm driving on. Essentially, the hummer is going to make you feel all cushy and separate you from the driving experience...kind of like my mom's RX330.

I don't like low to the ground cars... maybe I should have explained this earlier, but I'm 6'4" and I'm 250... so I'm a pretty big guy. I like having some interior space and when I step out of a vehicle I don't want to feel like I'm crawling out of it, or removing myself from a spam can. I like my interior space. I also like having a vehicle that if I needed to sit in the back seat, or any of my friends had to... they'd be comfortable sitting back there.

As for the driving experience I guess I've missed out all my life because I've owned large vehicles all my life... pickup trucks mostly... which is why "low gas mileage" doesn't bother me, I've never had high gas mileage so it's not like I'm losing any gas mileage by buying another large vehicle.

i've heard the H3's I5 is relatively weak, given the size of the vehicle, but otherwise it's a solid machine. definitely give a look at it and let us know how it goes, and good luck w/ your search :)

I drove an automatic... haven't had the chance to check out the manual transmissions yet... but the automatic was a fairly nice drive, however it really feels the road... the suspension is a little stiff.
