The least of which, IMO, would be to offer to pay the seller's listing and final value fees, plus another 5 spot or so for his trouble/time.

qft. same thing happened to me, i was a little smarter than you though. i e-mailed the guy, told him my mind had changed, he was very cool with it. he said just retract the bid using whatever option. so i retracted. end of story. it was easy.

There are so many deadbeats on ebay. I had one moron play dead until he knew I'd resold the item and then he starts emailing me threatening to report me to ebay for not selling him the item.
 
You are an idiot.

You shouldn't have played dead. Once you won it, you should have emailed him immediately saying, "I'm sorry, I've decided I do not want the item. I'll pay for any eBay fees, would you be willing to relist the item?"

Most sellers will understand, might ask for $5 or so (depending on the cost of the item) for the inconvenience and go on their way.

That answer applied where ebay does not know that you NEVER intended to make payment. You have admitted to bidding on an item you did not intend to pay for - under ebay rules that constitutes fraud and will result in immediate suspension.

Has the link for this thread been forwarded to ebay and to the seller? If not I will do it.

This is almost as bad as the "my moms an idiot" thread. To those who want me banned from ebay/insulted me fvck you 🙂

I came clean and told the guy he won basically and that i was wrong to try and play dead etc etc (yes this was after he read my post, i would have done it anyways at some point to avoid possible fee's as ive read up on the no paid item policy) and as for the crude use of language i also apoligised for that it was very uncalled for. Told him i would understand perfectly if he left a strike against my name, fair enough. But he agreed to a cancellation which was very good of him. I also explained i didnt actually *know* i could retract bids... To those that already knew this.. well.. gold star for you.. 😕 i didnt know that. So thats that sorted. I am not an a**hole or theif or scammer or moron etc etc, i dealt with the situation the best way i knew how with being an inexperienced ebayer and hearing about how my mates dad dealt with a similar situation which led me to just do what he did i.e reply harshly and play dead.
