My mom gave me a poster for Christmas once titled "Things I learned from Video Games".
My favorite item was: "Ninjas are common and frequently fight in public."

final fantasy ftw.

Yep. Nobuo Uematsu is a genius. I have hundreds of video game soundtracks thanks to his early influence.

Deus ex

People don't care if you run into their homes at any time of the day and start smashing barrels, opening dressers and drawers, or looking in bags for use
Except some times in Baldurs Gate and Fallout, then they tend to get hostile.

Things I've learned;
1. Even wearing advanced power armor and cybernetic upgrades, someone can still punch you to death (Fallout 2)
2. You can kill someone wearing leather or metal armor and wear it, but if you kill someone wearing power armor, you can't even pick it up.
3. You can survive being shot, run over, drowning in the middle of nowhere, being in an exploded vehicle, and so on, and be fine after one trip to the hospital Even in the middle of nowhere, some kind person will still take you to the hospital after such death.
4. If dating a girl who works for the police or the hospital, they'll set it up so you can keep your guns and ammo, but those same organizations will still keep any bullet-proof armor you may have on you.
5. One person is more effective than an entire army when taking down an opposing force, no matter how big (every FPS and space sim ever)
6. No matter what it hits, even walls and multiple people, a boomerang will always come back to you.
7. If you throw away a lightsaber and leave the room, it will still appear in your hands moments later.
8. Riddick is one bad mo'fo'. More importantly, you can dress up as a guard as part of an escape plan even though there are no guards to take the uniform from
9. Members of an underground rebellion in the future are immune to gunfire.
10. The government will send in soldiers to kill scientists to cover up an experiment, even if they were intending to nuke the facility anyway
11. White boys CAN jump (Super Mario, Xen levels of HL)
12. You can barely pick up a prototype weapon to take to the Rebel Alliance, then suddenly be able to use it later, even though you were specifically told it was impossible to use unless you had power armor boosting your strength
13. No matter how heavy the weapons, you NEVER get tired
14. Multiple organizations must have cloning technology; a lot of enemies only look like the same 5 people

I learned that it is faster to switch to your secondary when you're out of bullets than it is to reload your primary.

if you set off the alarm, an infinite number of enemies will come attack you (james bond 007, N64)

you can find magical items to steal back life when you beat the snot out of hordes of monsters and never have to rest in the process (diablo 1/2 :D)

If a cop sees you kill an innocent bystander you just have to run away or drive around and all will be forgiven.

That letting your three year old watch you beat people down with a crow bar in HL2 can lead to discipline problems down the line.

If two guys attack me, I can turn one into the sheep, freeze the other one to the ground while bombarding him with fireballs and then repeat the procedure with the 2nd one.

well, apparently l337 snipers jump from behind cover and squat before they shoot.
one can take 9 hits from a glock in your arms and legs yet still run around at full speed as if nothing happened, no such thing as partial injury or blood loss, just sudden death

and yes, hopping during a gun fight is a real tactic!!

and yes stabbing your teammates at the start of a match is funny

not to mention you can constantly reload full clips even if you've only shot a few bullets from your current clip. you don't discard your current partial clip, its contents mysteriously go back to your total ammo supply where fairies spend their time filling clips for you.

except for Deus Ex, so I was really reluctant to reload for that game.

"If there were no god, it would be necessary to create one." -Voltaire

:cookie: to anyone who knows which game.

Also,
"Whoever battles monsters should take care not to become a monster too, for if you stare long enough into the Abyss, the Abyss stares also into you."

I'll be generous and say it came from the beginning of Baldurs Gate 1. Forgot who said it originally. Probably either Voltaire or Nietzsche. Most any good quotes involving the darkness of the human mind comes from those two guys.

Both lessons I have learned a little from video games and a little from life.
