11. internet explorer??..ability to disable pop-up windows (internally/automatically launched windows) or at least ask before opening them

Why not just use Mozilla or Opera? They both have the ability to do this.

4. OH GOD YES. The XP explorer bar sucks, should've left it the way it was in 2k, with the option of turning and and off all that sh!t they have there now.

I'll add my own:

A GUI that is not designed for farking retards. Even with the skins you can't get rid of all the crap.

Overall, 2k owns XP big time.

I like XP better because you can skin it. This alone will make me stick with XP.
It's called windowblinds.

I hate WindowBlinds. It's so slow and bulky.
get the latest version

Perhaps its not the os.....

If XP is unable to close a program when it crashes that's an XP problem. Linux/*BSD/whatever does not have that problem, you can just kill it and free the memory. Extreme example: Dungeon Siege under XP. A lot of people have the problem that it crashes but stays among the processes when killed. 50-110 MB memory in use, and if you wait too long with rebooting it will give a nice blue screen, and not even CTRL-ALT-DEL will work anymore.

i know it's just a gadgetty thing... but... i think it's cool.

KDE 3.0 for *nix has it too.

Damn Windows is just missing out on all the latest gadgets and gizmos. ;)

does it have that magnification feature as well?
that'd be really cool if it did.

Thats the part that I was mentioning about. It has a Task Bar similar to Windows with the "Start" button on the left, a "quick launch" bar that has the magnify ability, the running processes listed like Windows, a view of the virtual desktops running, and the clock plus other small things.

But it does have that magnify ability.

1. Minimize to tray

2. explorer........ability to view ?Common Task Area? (or ?Webview? as it was called before) and ?Folders-bar? at the same time

3. explorer........show/hide button for hidden files

4. explorer........show/hide button for file extensions (or maybe ability to edit the file extension und properties)

5. explorer........move all files without prompts and just report errors at the end.

6. explorer........ability to edit ?Common Task Area? for one folder (type of folder).

7. allow users arrange/drag and drop windows on the taskbar in whatever order they want

8. internet explorer??..ability to disable pop-up windows (internally/automatically launched windows) or at least ask before opening them

I just send the above list to the windows team ... :D

I don't see why #8 couldn't be implemented with ease. I have yet to see useful popups that I did not initiate first. I think that we would have to ask the mozilla team for that one.

Because if you have done any web-based programming, you would know that the same code that pops something up when you want it to, is the same coding that happens when you don't want it to. And ther is no law of the land which comes by and makes all the ads use on specific way of using open commands, plus the ads have some really cool ways of opening, I have seen some really ingenious ads out there, they annopy me but the scipts are well written.

Edit: Ohh my point was that it would only be able to prompt, to ensure that something you actually wanted wouldn't be lost, or the setting would be configurable, but there is no sure firre way.

Well Mozilla has it down pretty good. It gives you two options:
Open unrequested windows (those annoying popups)
Open a link in a new window (when you click on a link)

Don't see why MS IE can't do it, at least for technical reasons. I can see why for political/business reasons though.

To be quite honest, none of those really strike me as must have features....some of those show/hide ideas are good but for instance the levels is not, IMHO a good one.

Use StyleXP

Also ... WinXP should have packet CD-writing capabilities. Maybe in the next version, with Mt. Rainer ... oh well ...

Just guessing, but isn't there a way (perhaps w/ an app) to create your own custom hotkey for this or any function? Maybe you could at least make a batch file and assign it to a keyboard button? If anyone knows, I'd like this too...otherwise i'll end up getting my lazy butt in gear to figure it out myself and that's no good.

I would love a program that does that :)
