There's a special place in hell for cheating on your spouse while she has cancer.

I think this rules him out for a Veep slot.

Yadda yadda, foxnews, national enquirer, all the facts are pretty well validated...

Security guard confirms

Interesting commentary from a conservative blog:

So why exactly is Rielle Hunter still a relatively unknown name, but everyone knows about Mark Foley and Larry Craig? Both deserved their fates, political ruin, but neither man fathered a child out of wedlock. Neither man was seeking the highest office in the land. They were, essentially, regional politicians of minimal note who were plucked and thrown onto the national stage due to their outrageous behavior.

Edwards is a national figure, and yet the media is treating this story like it doesn?t exist. Maybe that?s a good thing. Maybe we?re done with the era of sex scandals dominating the news cycle and distracting people from more important matters. If that were the case, I would be fine with the media leaving Edwards alone about all of this. It is a private matter, after all. But the problem is the double-standard.

If Mitt Romney or Mike Huckabee had been caught behaving like this, you can be darn sure that CNN anchors would be breaking into their regular programming to eat it up like vultures. But they like Edwards, in the same way they like Obama, and that?s why Edwards is getting a free ride. At least so far, there?s only so much the mainstream media can ignore. We?ll have to wait and see how the story develops over time.

National Enquirer and Fox?

One of the most sleazy, reckless spreaders of lies, AND the National Enquirer too?

Hunter has said that the father of her child is former Edwards campaign official Andrew Young. The 41-year-old married father of three has also said he is the father.

I'm not a fan of Edwards, and have dreaded the possibility that Obama might pick him as a running mate, but in all fairness this is the National Enquirer reporting this. It may be legit, or it may not. We shall see . . .

This story most likely kills his chance of being VP again. True or not Obama would be foolish to take the risk. Plus it would be stupid to risk having his Presidential campaign become derailed down the road by stories similar to this.

If it is true it would make him one pathetic human being and end any bid for VP.

I'm not saying this isn't true - I have no earthly idea - but I don't believe you'd immediately acquiesce that it was if the person involved were Senator McCain or Vice President Cheney, given the source. I don't see why you're attacking Craig for cannily pointing out that a man who has a lot to lose has agreed this is his child.

No argument there. I have already felt he'd be a terrible pick in that he shares Obama's status as a one-term senator - indeed he is actually less politically experienced than Obama. I don't see how a ticket with two bright, telegenic , relatively inexperienced senators with no military experience is balanced or particularly compelling.

Sure I would. The N.E. has actually quite a good history of finding cheating politicians. I pretty much believe any man in a position of power has a high probability of cheating on their spouse. It takes a special one to do it when she's got cancer...

That reminds me about Larry Flynt and his threatened outing of several (R) senators. I'm going to have to see what comrade Craig said on that one

onward AT search!

Sorry you need like and say that, because you can't tell the difference between believing everything the National Enquirer and Fox say, and things with solid evidence.

Where in my post did I say this is definitely NOT true? Nowhere. It could be true. YOU could be having an affair depiste YOUR wife with cancer, for all the evidence we have.

Get a clue.

The Enquirer has been right about some things, they've also been wrong about a whole load of things. To take a story on their word is simply a bad idea. FOX isn't much better.

Like it would be any more trusted if it was reported by huffington post or NBC news?

IMO if you did agree ANYTHING was true just because the Enquirer reported it, it would not speak well of you. I don't know that I am really sticking up for Edwards - I don't especially like him and could easily imagine him cheating on his wife - but I don't see how the story as reported could lead one to reasonably conclude that Edwards is cheating.

Actually I was skeptical until I read the whole thing, and the confirmation by foxnews. I mean there's "spin" which foxnews does regularly, and then there's outright lying. Foxnews isn't going to quote the security guard, and quote the police chief as outright lies.

"The Enquirer says it has videotape showing Hunter entering the room where she met Edwards, and shows Edwards leaving the same room. However, the Enquirer has thus far declined repeated requests by FOXNews.com to release any photographs or videotape evidence of the incident."

They are dishing it out slowly. Sells more.

Just FYI, the NE is owned by a former Clinton cabinet member.

As it is though, I don't really care because Edwards was about the last person I wanted to see get the VP pick.

No need to search - I'm a big fan of Flynt's efforts. For no other motive than his political beliefs/citizenship, he spends large sums to try to uncover the hypocrisy of Republicans who use social conservatism while privately behaving against their own stated beliefs, which they state for votes.

His efforts led to the replacement of the would-be Speaker of the House, among others.

As far as I'm aware, Flynt has established a solid record giving him credibility as exposing this information in 'good faith'; I'm unaware of any of his accusations being disproven.

In contrast, the National Enquirer publishes sensational stories for profit, and is notorious for having had many false stories published - a mixed record, with quite a few scoops that are legitimate, and quite a few big lies. Take their May story about the $200 million Dr. Phil divorce - she is still sitting in his studio audience. Maybe they'll announce something tomorrow, but it looks like a lie at this time.

Their track records are enormously better than either National Enquirer or Fox News. I view Huffington Post as a commentary, not a news site, primarily, though.

Yah, flynt's last "expose" that didn't expose anyone? Hard to disprove something when you don't name names, isn't it?

So back when Edwards was trotting his cancer-stricken wife out on stage proclaiming his love for her, it wasn't hypocritcal to be banging some broad working for his campaign? Oh, as long as you don't take a moral stance, you're absolved. Yes, far better to have no morals at all than be a hypocrit.

You make me laugh. Unsurprising though, coming from someone who will defend a pedophile strictly based on his politics.

Huh? Flynt *didn't* name names, so that makes him the same as those who do and lie?

I obviously need to type slowly for you.

Of course it was, IF he did it, which is not proven.

Oh, as long as you don't take a moral stance, you're absolved. Yes, far better to have no morals at all than be a hypocrit.

Ya, it is worse to commit adultery when you run on 'the sanctity of marriage' than when you don't make those claims - much less even say you have an open marriage.

You make me laugh. Unsurprising though, coming from someone who will defend a pedophile strictly based on his politics.

You are a liar. There's no proof Bernie Ward is a pedophile or has done anything to any child - and plenty of evidence he has not, since he was investigated and not charged with it.

Any my position on his acts is based on the facts, not politics.

I'm a big fan of Bernie Ward's politics, his work on the radio, his values as expressed for years. I'm not a big fan of his judgement in sending a child porn photo to the 'dominatrix', if he was 'investigating' a social issue. I'm more condemning of his behavior if he did it for prurient reasons, because of his then using others for his own selfish desire. And I'd be in favor of strong punishment if he actually did harm a child. IF, and it looks unlikely now.

I'm a big fan of JFK as President, and I'll condemn his treatment of his wife - and his ethic where he encouraged Teddy to cheat too. So your baseless and false attack that I'm somehow reaching conclusions based on politics, when you are the one who is lying recklessly, possibly for politics, will fit neatly in the dark location your statements came from.

I can see why you believe claims without evidence, since you are quick to tell lies.

Pedophile = "an adult who is sexually attracted to children".

He distributed kiddie porn. You are a defender of a convicted felon, a kidde porn distributor, and it's 100% based on his liberal politics. If it was Rush Limbaugh you're story would be 180 degrees. You're the only person convincing yourself that you defend him otherwise.

Unless perhaps you feel kiddie porn should be legal. Is there something else you'd like to share with us while we're on the topic?

Oh, and there is evidence of him trying to diddle little girls, can't wait to hear you explain that away.

You remind me of Austin Powers
"That's not mine!"

Gotta love the FoxNews hating. All they need is HuffingtonPost and MediaMatters. Now THOSE are credible websites.

All FoxNews was reporting is that there are reports of the sleezeball cheating on his wife, and those reports came from the security guard and reporter from the hotel. That's 2 sources of information, until the pictures and video come out scumbag leftists everywhere will think John Edwards is a saint.

If I'm wrong I'm wrong....however it doesn't look good and he always reeked of slimeball to me.

Yeah, OK, and senator Craig just has big feet 😉 Please, the guy's a nasty pedobear and everyone knows it.

I don't have any faith in what fox or the enquirer report though, we'll have to see if it gets reported by a real media outlet.....

time will tell

the truth eventually comes out

but somehow I think your opinion of Edwards or any "scumbag lefties" was never in danger of taking a change toward the negative.

so who cares.

Since you're so belligerent in condemning those questioning this story as "scumbag leftists", I assume you're prepared to show everyone how you've used objective facts and careful analysis to reach your self-righteous perch. For example, you claim the guard reported Edwards was cheating on his wife. Could you please give us the specific quotes supporting that claim? All I see is the guard confirming someone he believes was Edward was being hounded by two National Enquirer reporters, and Edwards being upset by it. While a partisan hack might interpret that as proof of Edwards' guilt, it would be an ASSumption not asserted by the guard himself. Then again, I'm sure I just missed it, and look forward to you providing the actual quote from the guard.

Beyond that, it appears to me Fox isn't making any accusations of its own against Edwards, but is merely reporting that the National Enquirer is making accusations. That leaves us with the Enquirer as the sole source of this story so far. It certainly wouldn't surprise me if a powerful man like Edwards was sleeping around, but it will take a more reputable source than the Enquirer to persuade me. (About this or any other story. Face it, they're trash.)

Frankly, I'm a bit disappointed the OP would stoop to presenting such tabloid reporting as noteworthy. I can only assume next week he'll regale us with tales of two-headed babies and space aliens infiltrating the CIA.
