Interestingly enough, I think these may be some of our root causes here on the CPU forum:

1. True 'hateful' comments (not much you can about this - give the posters a break or ban them)
2. Passionate debate (can be construed as hateful at times)
3. Envy (other posters get nasty because someone else has something nicer than them)
4. Flame-baiting (purposeful flame-baiting to incite a troll thread)

I think #3 happens a lot here. We are not like extreme OC, and we have a lot of budget OC as well as more extreme tweakers. Unfortunately, sometimes this means the 'eliteists' look down on the those OCing a cheap combo, or the budget OCers crapping on more expensive setups.

The lesson here is to be courteous and understand that many different people and users frequent and post here.

As others have said, use the 'report' button and as a community we need to keep things clean. I have been guilty of infractions myself, no one is perfect, but I try to conduct myself the best I can. Always read what you plan to post before you click 'enter'. Sometimes it seems OK when you type it out, but then seems a little more nasty than it should be when you read it again.

I'm not sure what happened. I don't remember it back in '99 when I came here.

Debate is one thing... what I read here more and more is not that.

What do you expect? There are nothing but AMD fanboys crying around the forum talking about how one person buying an AMD processor will save the entire semiconductor industry, and how Intel will increase prices 10-fold the second AMD exists the market.

You have people on here that lie to get hits to their blogs to make money. You have many more ignorant people that purposefully take every single opportunity to mislead people about Intel (for example, here http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2307957 ).

Just to summarize that link, inventory levels always go down Q3>Q4 due to the Christmas season. Beyond that, anyone with a brain stem could forecast an Intel inventory burn when the specifically said they would drop 22nm fabrication utilization down to 55~% in Q3. Note that the AMD fanboy brigade on this forum rushed to shout about Intel's "imminent" bankruptcy didn't even bother to actually look or read the article, let alone attempt to even consider making a remote attempt to comprehend it. The article specifically showed AMD's inventory declining more than Intel's, but that didn't matter. Also note that surplus inventory is actually extremely bad (see AMD taking a $100 million charge on surplus Llano inventory).

So that is the state of this forum. We have a fact-free delusional, but powerful AMD fanboy brigade on these forums. I think we actually have more AMD fanboys here than on AMDzone since that site has about 1 post per month now.

So, given that, why the hell should I attempt to not hate these people? They live in a fact-free delusional bubble that is impenetrable by facts, logic, or reason. Hell, if a FX-6300 gets clobbered by an Intel processor from 2009 (i5 750), then that is evidence of AMD's dominance, resurgence, and the end of the "intel monopoly".

To repeat, why not hate these people?

Probably because it is more rational and useful to post evidence to the contrary and report the AMD devotee if they're being unconstructive, nasty, and hateful.

There's no reason to waste energy on something as hopeless as hate.

Facts don't work on them. Objective, critical thinking is a foreign concept to them.

Fanboisn/hate threads are not a new thing and people didn't really change in this regard. But what is different is that everyone has internet connection now. At the time this site was launched there were probably 200 million users, today there are apparently 2.5 billion of them, which is 12.5 times higher, so that's the cause of so much of information spam across internet boards and social networks and so on.

I started to use internet sometime in 2000 (I was 10 at the time) and what annoys me the longer the worse is internet advertising, it started with static banners and icons, now you have flashes, videos with sounds and splash screens across entire site you can't disable, mute or skip, this is particularly something I find very frustrating.
The next thing I hate alot are regional viewing restrictions(you can't watch US shows on their sites or youtube videos if you are from EU - this really pisses me off).

From the social part, the internet got much worse over the last 2 years, especially with idiotic stuff like gangnam style and harlem shake, before if you wanted to get noticed on the web you had to actually do something. Today you just create something like above mentioned retarded songs and you get more attention than all best bands, actors and singers of all time combined, I don't get this really.

Wow, that makes me feel old... I graduated high school when you were 5.

As for all the annoying ads - try flashblock and adblock plus. I see none of that stuff unless I want to.

As for attention, that part sounds like you are jealous...

As for users on this board, you gotta track active users, not total. There are a lot of users that are banned and many more that are just plain inactive. I don't know how to tell how many active users the site has, I never really was curious enough to look.

one more thing to add.

a moderator playing god is worse than members having a bad hair day and taking it out on the forum.

It varies in time of course but at this moment here are the stats:

Currently Active Users: 9660 (976 members and 8684 guests)

The database claims we have some 9k active members in general, no idea how that stat is determined though. But we are about a 1:10 member to lurker ratio.
