They definitely get infractions...
Absolutely. In fact many of the more prolific posters in this thread have infractions in the past 2 months. Not every infraction is going to have a mod note attached to the bottom (for various reasons).

We are human, we are born to hate and fight and do war but also to love...

Ideology is also one part of it, capitalism just resulted in dumb people while socialism/communism is harsh but it also its by product are smart people...

Very first prototpy of MP3 player was created in Croatia, in year 1993...

I'm just going to stop you right here. This isn't P&N. I don't want to hear another peep about political ideologies or Croatia.

Ideology and values are a huge part of it. The thing with the public forums such as this one is that you can't really choose who you're interacting with. In the real world, you have much more control over this.

Since I think everybody can agree on me being one of the "prolific posters," and perhaps the worst, I'll let you in on why I act this way.

I've got a massive disregard for authority. I think that's pretty apparent.

I value "the truth" over blissful ignorance. While you guys all want your peaceful, erroneous discussions, it's my view that being right is more important than worrying about offending somebody. I don't care about your pride -- if you're wrong, you're wrong; deal with it. I'm not afraid to call out baloney.

This is probably the number one issue. A lot of people here are so full of themselves that they take personal offense to being wrong.

Finally, I just like to argue.

I probably only have an infraction or two left in the tank, so before long you guys will be rid of me.

That's called thread crapping. It drags threads off topic, which is one of the ways threads get ruined.
-ViRGE

I'm aware of your opinion on that post. I can't see how you can say that post drags the thread off-topic considering the very next post commented on it and it's relation to the topic.

Anyway, I'm not here to argue with you on the merits of that infraction. I'm merely letting people know they can get infractions for posts that wouldn't garnish one anywhere else.

It's okay, I've gotten a ton of infractions too. All for stuff that wasn't really worth batting an eye over, and all stuff that was posted to threads that were well on their way to becoming cesspools.

Vic Vega, if noone has told you that they love you today, then I love you.

I've learned not to say those three words together, in that order, unless I really mean it... The person on the receiving end can forget every word you've ever said to them, but they'll remember those three and it will come back to haunt you at a later date. lol

I would like to believe this, but we see out right personal attacks all over these forums on an hourly basis, we see hatred and bile from the same individuals over and over. They never get infractions for the reports and the problem element, small as it is, remains. So please if you meant what you said start dealing with these problem people quickly so we can get back to being civil and actually discussing the technology.

There's only so much that so few can do in the limited time here. You can't expect the state troopers to pull over and ticket every car driving 1 mph over the speed limit. They have to be judicious with their time and pull over the people going 15 mph over the speed limit.

If ViRGE, or Markfw900, or any of the other mods only have 1hr of their time to donate to the forums on a daily basis (none of them are paid for this) then wouldn't you rather they hunted down the biggies and took out the bigger problem trolls while letting the lesser nuisance issue go unsanctioned for the short-term?

They can't do everything, there aren't enough hours in the day. I know, I remember what it was like cleaning up the cesspool that VC&G had become years ago, it took 8hrs of mod work a day. Who (1) has that kind of freetime, and (2) would waste that kind of time moderating trolls and hoodlums? It quickly became my least favorite thing to do with my day.

So, appreciate what the mods do get done here in CPU, recognize they don't have to do any of it (they are volunteers), and try to help them rather than be demanding of them.

We can either view this forum as a glass that is half empty or as a glass that is half full.

I think we as a community can help with this. With our limited number of mods, they cannot possibly see all the crap that goes on in these threads. To this end, I believe the best thing we can do is use the "Report" button whenever applicable.

I don't know about y'all, but I just go "meh" about crap in here way too often.

I'm surprised this is still open and here, this has nothing to do with CPUs or overclocking although it's an interesting topic.

move plz.

Far and away the mods preference too.

Please use that "report post" button. It goes into a queue which the mods can see and it helps them pinpoint where to spend their time and limited resources when they log in to spend some time moderating.

That is my personal approach, as a member. It is infinitely easier to just ignore the crap and move on versus stopping and investing time and effort to deal with it.

This Zion serves a purpose.

Rest assured the Architect will be along in due course to ensure the Prime Program is properly instituted and carried out.

Until then, let this thread serve its purpose.

I hope this is not going to turn into another "everyone hates AMD" thread.

If you come on an enthusiast site, most people these days are going to be using Intel because they have the fastest CPU's right now. Doesn't mean they hate AMD, just that they want the fastest processor. Back in 2000, or in 2003, when AMD had the fastest processor, everybody didn't hate Intel, but most enthusiasts bought AMD because it was the best.

Anyone who "hates" a CPU manufacturer really needs to get a life.

different folks with different strokes.

this is an open forum. allow it to evolve. stop crying about it. as long as "all" the content is kept at a professional level.

if this is not your cup of tea - go and make your own "private" forum.

"Stop crying about it". Now there's an interesting phrase. There are few phrases that are so unquestionably hostile, and consequently start so many fights.

I often avoid posting in threads, even tho I read many of them.
I don't want to put myself in the thunderdome so to speak.

It's very hard to get along with people at times, specially the younger ones.
There can be a fallacy that only 1 person can be right, or the only way to respond is to correct/denounce someone else's post.

The distinction between fact and opinion is often blurred. I generally try to take a different point of view or give the benefit of the doubt when others make a statement. Most times I wouldn't have the energy to correct anyone anyways.
Few things are accomplished thru bickering.

These are just some random thoughts. Personally I like to sleep at night with no outstanding posts that require defense of my character or feverously researching subject matter for an argument I don't wanna have.
The internet should be a good thing.

EDIT: 5,555 posts over the last 12yrs :)

Ultimately we would rather have a community of 10 Idontcares posting in 1 thread a day

I don't think the universe could handle that level of awesome, I am sure we would have sorted out world peace by lunch time and probably perfected inter stellar space travel by dinner.

Pardon my ignorance, but how do you tell if/when you have an infraction?

On another thread-related subject, I really agree with several of the sentiments here, it feels rather heated here in anandtech, but I also see mods working hard to keep it under control as well. This is nothing like what most people would call the dead forum of 2cpu, almost everyone there gets along with everyone else and it feels nice to have a community where people aren't hostile about you liking one brand over another or recommending one brand over another there. It may have to do with that forum being almost abandoned, becoming an extreme niche area of computers and this one being as popular (seemingly) as ever.

In my blunt opinion, the human race as a whole needs to grow the hell up, IMO and I really don't know which will happen: the human race growing up or destroying itself. This reminds me distinctly of a question asked Michio Kaku which he answered in a short video, here.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=219YybX66MY
This is also my opinion (I agree with Michio) about why things are so bad right now, human society is going through the transition into a type 1 civilization, or self destructing... and which one will happen is still up in the air.
