There's a lot of hate here...

I'm not sure what happened. I don't remember it back in '99 when I came here.

Debate is one thing... what I read here more and more is not that.

There's also a lot of borrowed self-worth here. Challenge the basis of someone's illusion of self-worth and you're bound to generate an highly emotional response.

look at our entire society compared to 1999, I think you will find a strong parallel to what you are witnessing here

Nothing different from what sports fans do to their rival teams. Humans will do whatever it takes to prop up their little clique at the expense of others, often on baseless and illogical foundations.

The OP himself, has accused people of propping up Intel in a thread in which the question was about a build with an unlimited budget.

Sort of yea, but the thing is, there is not so many interresting things going on at the moment.. and void interresting things, the bating and hating goes into focus.

People get sick of fanatics pushing agendas and distorting reality and after getting called on their BS, the fanatics then want to cry about there being a lot of hate around the forums.

Pretty much every human generation ever has complained about moral/societal decline.

Yeah, but it this case its pretty obvious for those around long enough to see the decline in civility. I was born in the 1960s so I'm old enough to have seen it change in my lifetime. If yours is of a shorter span I can see how you might not have noticed. Of course its an anecdotal observation (as are most things posted on internet forums), so there's no way to prove or disprove it.

There's a lot of facts here, not hate.

If your emotional bond with a specific brand of processors is twisting those facts into hate then that's your own problem to either deal with or fix, not Anandtech's or any other online forum that discusses processors.

Indeed. It's the same problem plaguing forums and commentary sites in general: everyone and everything is getting more polarized. This is probably due to the flood of media that lets one pick and choose what they want to listen to, which in turn makes it easy to end up in an echo chamber. But I digress, I'm not a sociologist.

I am however a mod, and after handing out several infractions today I'd like to make it clear that we aren't going to put up with these shenanigans. If you're going to troll, berate others, lie, or just be a hostile jackass, we don't need you. This is a technical forum and we expect everyone here can act like adults: polite, courteous, professional. If you cannot do that then we will infract you; and if you keep doing that we will throw you out entirely.

At the end of the day our goal is to ensure that this is a forum of useful help threads and good technical discussions. If we have to remove people to achieve that, so be it. Ultimately we would rather have a community of 10 Idontcares posting in 1 thread a day than 1 million GUTBs.

Media is to blame. Its the lowest determinator for drama and pressure. And everyone goes there. Just look at TV shows what they are about. And society change towards that in terms of what people accept as normal. A lot of techsites today are simply sensationaistic as well. It gives hits and ads revenue. And why huge amount of information is blatantly wrong.

Not to mention everything today is photoshopped and polished up to something out of reach for reality. I doubt anyone have seen a real untouched woman in a commercial the last 10 years for example. And this is what is set as standards. And why people are living in a nightmare of illusional standards they cant keep. No wonder the world is angry.

I would like to believe this, but we see out right personal attacks all over these forums on an hourly basis, we see hatred and bile from the same individuals over and over. They never get infractions for the reports and the problem element, small as it is, remains. So please if you meant what you said start dealing with these problem people quickly so we can get back to being civil and actually discussing the technology.

Yep, pretty much this. I don't expect things to change anytime soon.
