I'm in the same boat as you. While I earn above average wage the overall effect of prices rising is blowing my budget right out of the water. First thing to go was unnecessary spending (eating out, going out the bars) next up is cable TV (so long HD) then I guess I'll have to start selling off some of my stuff. I already live with a roommate and split rent and utilities, etc.

I live in the Boston area and do take the T when I need to go IN towards town, but I work OUTSIDE of town where there is no feasible way to get in a sane amount of time using pulic transport.

You should get rid of cable regardless. You can get a good antenna and pick up all the standard HD channels for free.

Of course, you won't get the dogshit HD channels that cable gives you like INHD and MOJO and MHD... blech

And why wouldn't you give a rat's ass if you have to pay more? That's just mind-bogglingly stupid; who doesn't care when they have to pay more for stuff? I will be happy to sell you gas for $7 per gallon. You don't care, right? So come buy your gas from me.

I think that's because when looking at the pump, some of us can't justify the price increase that we've seen over the past year or two.

Lack of real substitutes + iron grip of collusional oligopy + pretext of holiday weekend somehow affecting supply that has been in groud tanks for weeks = massive price spike and record profits.

Gas prices go up and up, but retards keep consuming gasoline more and more. I hope it keeps going higher. I live less than 4 miles from work.

When the cost of getting there outweighs the salary it might be time to start putting a resume together. That is what your post suggests.

I wish there was a way people go to work together in groups, alternating vehicles, and sharing the cost of fuel. Heck, we could even give them a special lane on the freeway as an incentive.

we dont care if you are willing to pay 10$ more a week, stop posting the same crap -_-

Sorry for being a voice of reason. People like you drive up the price with all the panic, panic mayhem crap. Why don?t you stop worrying and make a change.
voice of reason? You speak pretty highly of yourself....everyone else says the same thing you do 'stop whining, etc, etc' we get it, gas prices will go up/down as they please, nothing we can REALLY do about it, except adjust our way of living.

I bought a 94 civic as a commuter and use my jetta every so often...both are great gas savers, what have YOU done ? I barely fill up as well, girlfriend just got a job 1 miles from our new place.

Yeah so I'm just going to ask this because I don't feel like sifting through 100 pages of other gas threads...

Besides actual refinery/supply and demand/etc. issues, is the price actually going up unrealistically solely because they know they can get away with it? And if so why isn't anyone doing anything about it, and why now and not 5 or 10 years ago?

Please answer seriously without biased or joking Bush/Cheney/corrupted government answers.

We got HD cause Comcast had a special and my roommate wanted to watch Sopranos. To be honest all I watch on TV is Sopranos and Entourage. I like watching Law and Order (all flavors) but usually do on the non-HD TV in my room. Hockey in HD is also nice.

HD Cable still works out cheaper with a roommate than what I was playing for extended basic when I lived alone so that money was already accounted for.

This is a brand new job for her. We used to work at the same office and now that I have moved in a "position of influence" one of us was forced to leave. Obviously since I got the promotion, she was the one to volunteer to leave.
The cost of getting to her new job does not outweigh the salary. It is however a shock to the system with her now having to fill the car up every week. Before we would drive in together and not have to fill the car for 2 weeks (since it was all of 5 miles total per day) - and if we alternated cars each day, we could basically go a month without visiting the gas station.

Wait wait, i was visiting my parents in Boston last week, you guys are dirt cheap compared to the rest of the country (still under 3.00... ), you should see the rest of the country and then you'll be thanking god for your fuel costs.

I don't care if gas prices are high or not.. I DO care if gas prices are high just because the oil companies have decided to make them high.

Right now, the per-barrel price of crude does not justify prices anywhere near where they are now. It pisses me off that a 10% increase in the price of crude ends up being a 40% increase in the price at the pump.

I have a buddy who complains about how much he pays for gas, yet he pays nearly $3 for a tiny can of Red Bull energy drink each day, which I think is just as much of a ripoff as gas.

I know that the prices here are less that other places around the country. But housing cost is much less in other areas of the country too, and I don't complain that my rent went up 3% to $1000/month while my friends went up 3% to $350.

The fact is, the % of my income that goes towards gas has sharply increased since i moved here in 2004. My commute is exactly the same. I even drive LESS (driving to friends, movies, etc). I drive an 04 Mazda 6s and get 25-26 mpg all included. It used to cost me ~$20/week to fill up, now it costs $40-45.

Because "big milk" or "big udder" just doesn't whip people into the same frenzy as "big oil".

If we get rid of the politians and environmentalists, we can drop gas prices by quite a bit.

I'm paying approx $.50 per gallon in taxes. And this country hasn't had a new refinery in almost 30 years. Time to build a new one. And we need to tap into some of our domestic oil sources.
