LOL..but those were just from today...that's just a bit on the hypocritical side. Statistically..if you didn't post at all today (including this thread)..wouldn't things be better?

I'm beginning to see the light... that flaming IS the way...

That was in no way a flame...and I'm sure many other AT'ers will confirm that.

I can put up an example flame if you like..but I'm a little out of practice. :p

No, I didn't mean that your post was a flame.

I mean that throughout this thread I've learned that flaming is the way to go.

After spending all this time and energy defending your standpoint, why do you decide to change so quickly? Seems as though you were pretty sure of your arguments..

Sorry, that was my poor attempt at being humorous.

I actually still believe that we can all tone down the posts and leave the personal insults out of it.

marshall, after reading your posts in the boxster thread and now this, it seems you take things a bit too seriously, and you take it very personal when someone disagrees with you. you feel the need to retort regardless of whether you're right or wrong ,and you do your best to try to prove them wrong even if its an opinion, dude, relax eh?

go outside.. instead of driving goto a shooting range :) i don't mean to point it out but you're a arrogant, stubborn, and not very fun :)

Incorrect. This is the best thread ever.

Vote to FAQ.

To my knowledge, it isn't common practice for someone to vote his own thread to the FAQ...but as it was so eloquently stated.."different strokes for different folks."

Thanks for the constructive criticism. I'll try to keep that in mind when I post.

Please don't tell me you took that post seriously...

Seeing myself getting beaten down for 3 pages isn't exactly my idea of "the best thread ever".

lol

I'm losing this argument, remember?

If I break down and flame people, I'm wrong and the majority is right, and peace is restored on AT.

I've been to other forums and found them to be more civil, but on here the average age of the members must be pretty young. It seems that nearly every thread turns into a flame fest because some kid gets offended and goes off.

I'd be willing to bet that most (not all, but most) people on here are from 15-25. Hormones are raging, tempers are flaring, and everyone's trying to exercize their opinion, no matter how misguided and/or uninformed it is. College kids especially, they're coming into the "real world" and are trying to be heard, and are making waves(which is why you see so many college age kids that are protesters, such as the anti-war protesters and WTO protesters).

Can't conversations be kept civil? Or must everyone resort to name calling?

One of the most basic rules of debating is to attack the point, not the person making it.

I encourage people to try to step back, cool off, and be civil.

PS- please do not take offense and turn an pro-civility, anti-flame thread into a flamefest.

True. I couln't agree with you more. However, I'm not about to take any crap from a snot-nosed kid half my age. :( :(

ok

you drew me back in.

UR not wrong. it would be nice if people didn't flame at the drop of a hat BUT they way you went about trying to deliver the message is wrong.

UR post is offensive and unnecesary as well as being arrogant.

so STFU.

Ok, sounds good so far... I agree that it would be better if people didn't flame. It's good to see that you haven't resorted to that.

UR post is offensive and unnecesary as well as being arrogant.

Still sounds good... sorry if my post came off that way....

Oh my.

MarshallJ, don't mind those who have resorted to calling you names. You raise a good point indeed. I have avoided political and serious discussions primarily for the reason you mentioned. However, I am not sure that AT is an exception. In fact, I would say that those forums with civil discussions are exceptions. Nevertheless, the irony with AT is that it's a forum with many technically savvy members, One would expect the same level of intelligence and maturity when those same members participate in non-technical discussions, yet when it comes to political discussions and social issues there's a tendency for masses to congregate and resort to calling the opponents and dissenters names. Hardly do they state their facts and reasoning or constructively refute the arguments of the dissenters.

I would venture to say that it is indeed likely the age tendency at this forum. Most (including myself) are pretty young people. Sadly though, the few older folks whose posts I read aren't any better. Confusing, isn't it? :/
