In case it hasn't ben posted yet, direct2drive is selling the Witcher2 for ~$33 bucks. Use the discount code SIZZLE for an additional 25% off their normal 10% discount on pre-orders.

I.e.: Normal price = $49.99
normal 10% discount: $44.99
+ additional 25%= ~$33

edit: not sure how long the deal will last. And it applies to various other big game preorders too.

Done! As much as I really don't care for D2D, I'm not sure I can justify spending $10 more on GOG...

Does anyone know if you can activate the D2D version on Steam? Since they are both the digital edition.

Sure about that? I don't think CDP Red would ever allow a little accessorizing to detract from making a great game. You don't need to buy the collector's edition if you don't want to. Don't worry about it.

On another note, I'm not sure if anyone's posted this yet, but here's a new gameplay trailer showing off the "living world". Amazing. http://www.gametrailers.com/video/exclusive-gameplay-the-witcher/713622?type=flv

Its also now available for pre-order at http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/the_witcher_2
And no DRM!
I Loved the first and pre-ordered this without hesitation.
I mean, its gotta be better than DA2.
And i have zero issues doing all i can to help a pc/rpg developer to help try and keep pc gaming alive.

A note about preorder and TW2 editions from CD Projekt RED
http://tw2.thewitcher.com/forum/index.php?topic=30742.0
GOG.com is a digital distribution platform. We (that is, CD Projekt RED) and GOG.com share the same parent company, which means that by ordering The Witcher 2 from GOG.com, you’ll be giving practically 100% of your money to, and thus supporting, the company creating the game. Moreover, we think GOG has a great offer for you – one that’s certainly worth a glance. Naturally, you’ll be supporting us any time you acquire a legal copy of the game, so if for some reason the GOG.com offer doesn’t strike your fancy, feel free to go to one of the many other sites offering The Witcher 2.

Pre-ordered the Digital Premium edition from D2D with the promocode for $34...you can't beat a price like this for a release date.

Can't wait!

I finally made the decision to preorder on D2D but they killed the 25% off code. :(

My bad on the poor GOG link.
I should have at least posted this one.(the right one!)
http://www.gog.com/en/page/tw2v3

They give a link in the order confirmation email to choose a free game, i still haven't decided, i may choose Gothic 2 since i never played it.

You can choose from Beyond Divinity, Divine Divinity, Gothic 2: Gold Edition, Realms of Arkania 1 + 2 or Realms of Arkania 3 for your free game.

Oh and i was able to download most of the game already with the last bit available at release. (i think it said there would be only 50mb more to download on release day)
I'm on my laptop so i cannot check right now.

I'm going with GOG to support the developers. Talk is cheap so best way to reward good people is with my money. I'd gladly donate 10 bucks to keep games like this flowing. And GOG let me get legit copies of Freespace and Freespace 2 so I like supporting them.

Ditto. Just finished the 9GB download via the GoG applet. Now just waiting for that final piece and it's off to the races.

Not to be a downer, but that looks exactly like Oblivion (the "Living World" aspect). I wouldn't get too excited about it.

That being said, this game looks like a good one.

Wow, what a great video. Color me tickled pink.

Also, I've never downloaded games from GOG before, so I have a question I hope someone can clarify. Do i just download a single .EXE that I can store on my comp in case I need to reinstall the game in the future? How does GOG work?

EDIT: Actually I'm torn between buying the Steam version or the GOG version. Steam's nice and all with autopatching, and it's nicely tucked into my Steam game library.

Once you buy a game off of GoG, it's yours. You can install/play online or offline, install as many times as you want on multiple computers, and redownload as many times as you want. It's really a nice setup they have going there. Plus all of their old games are already patched to the latest versions, so you don't have to worry about hunting down and installing patches.

On a side note, has anyone read any specs on the computers used in these gameplay videos? I'd like to compare to see what kind of frame rates to expect with my setup.

I already know all that you listed, what I'm asking is: Do you just have to download an installation file once and store it on your computer, or do you have to install some application (I.E. Steam) to download and launch games every time you need to reinstall.

No extra software is required. Just download the installer, in the form of an .exe, straight from the website. Run and enjoy.

Although, they DID just recently roll out a new proprietary download manager that has some nifty features, but it's not necessary at all. (You might want to try it though, because it actually has on-the-fly integrity checking, which is helpful because TW2 will be a very large download).

I pre-ordered from Steam just for the sake of having it on Steam. But if the game is good enough, I might just buy it from GOG as well.

TW1 already had a 'living world', this just seems to expand on it nicely.

that is why this is a collectors edition seperate from just the game itself. In other words, its for collectors, fans of the game.

Eh, neither TW1 or Oblivion really has a living world. They're both basically the same TBH. NPCs living on preset schedules with minor randomization of their actions, and semi-random spawns of enemies in the "wilds".
