I finally turned off Orthos at 13 hours 30 minutes. I was getting bored :) I'm self declaring it stable. Tonight, before i got to bed I will try to lower the Vcore & mem volts to see if i still be stable at the lower settings

On the other side, keeping the same settings i tried to run Orthos at 3.8 and it failed immediately and also 3.7 and it failed after 15 minutes. Both blend testing.

I'm getting a little nervous about putting more volts on the cpu. I have no idea if increasing volts to fsb will do anything. At this time its seems to be a crap shoot on what to adjust on this board to get higher OC. Any body have any ideas?

I really like this board though:)

Sniper, i though you ordered that tuniq last week. Now we have to wait another week for your new results :)

At a guess I'd say the height of the heatsink is 4cm so you might just about be OK. I'd measure it but I'm running an orthos test just now. I'll check tomorrow unless someone else posts in the meantime.

Snail..
GREAT write up, it was exactly what I was looking for when I PMd you..THANKS!
Now.. here's my next burning question.. Is anyone here using an aftermarket SATA RAID controller and which one. I want to run RAID 5 with my 4 75gb Raptors but several attempts to use the onboard RAID 5 controller (software RAID) have failed. They ran but I was continually having failures that caused the array to want to rebuild after almost every re-boot. Onboard RAID 5 sucks! Anyway.. I have tried to different Promise Fasttrax controllers (SX4100 & TX4310) and have had no luck with either controller. The one thing I am most puzzeled over is why such a high end board only has PCIX 1 slots (most RAID cards require a higher PCIX multiplier). Also... what are the specs on the PCI slots? I can't find the spec info anywhere??

I don't run raid. I know nothing about it :) Check that! I know nothing "good" about it. All I ever hear on these forums is how raid screwed up their system, yadda yadda yadda. I even had friend that had their raid go bad and lost everythig. I also ran a company where I had a IT dept. I ask them if "Everything is backuped" ...."yes.. we got raid" Boom.....company system crashes... loose all data..... Blame it on raid :) Or maybe i should have just fired that IT S.O.B.

Hey, Snail. I will be in London (let's meet) next year on my way to spain for "running of the bulls". Let's have a pint before I get a horn up my arse :)

Well, the RAID 0 setup I run on my Asus P5B-VM-DO microATX board runs GREAT! never had a problem with it and it's solid and fast (2x 160gb Sata II Maxtors). I'm running two separate RAID 0 setups on this board. Two 75gb Raptors on the JMicro connectors and the other two Raptors on the Intel. I just want to be able to run all 4 in a RAID 5 setup!!
I don't need to...... I Just Want To :) All the research I've done says 3Ware has the best hardware RAID controllers out there but they are soooooooooooo expensive and I can't run any of their PCI Xpress cards because this MB doesn't meet their spec. All I'm left with is PCI and I can't find what the standard is for the PCI slots on this board?? I'd LOVE to run all 4 drives on the JMicron but alas...only 2 connectors...bummer.

PS: Thanks to Snail's great write up I'm happily cruising at 3.2ghz. I could easily push it since I'm liquid cooled but I hate all the tedious work that taking it to the edge involves. Thanks again Snail!!! :)

After 14 hours and 10 mins of continuous Orthos loops I'm calling it in. So, here are the final voltages for my 3.6GHz OC:

Vcore 1.4625v
MCH Default
FSB Default
PCI-E Deafult
DIMM +0.3 (2.1v)

Peak temps:

CPU 57C
Core 0 67C
Core 1 67C
Mobo 38C

MrFB - it's a bit worrying that the other versions of Orthos fail on you. I dont think I'll bother trying any of them ;)

Silentbob, sorry to hear about your RAID 5 woes. If you're after an addon card, I suggest you start a dedicated thread to get the right audience. I also recommend contacting Gigabyte support about the PCI version. They've been very good at responding to the questions I've posted to them.

@sniper, congrats. You must have a cool girlfriend :) btw, you are going to love your tuniq. I woke woke this morning to Core temps of 50C while running Orthos :)

@5t3v0, They weren't different versions of Orthos. I was trying to OC at 3.7 & 3.8 with my same settings and they failed.

I am currently 9H 30m orthos at 3.6 with 2 ticks lower voltage than my sig (i can't remember the number). I will lower more tonight if it passes orthos

Yesterday I ran some tests that all failed miserably (no post). I tried

7 x 500 no post
7 x 499 no post
7 x 490 post and failed. Would not even let me in bios. I had to turn off computer and unplug it for 10 minutes. Then I got back into bios and reset. whew!

I guess these results point to that the memory is fine but he mobo doesn't like the high FSB. Does that mean pump up the FSB voltage?

I feel like I am getting a little greedy and should just quit. :) But I'm having to much fun. :)

Hey guys, we may want to move over to this thread if we keep talking about OC'ing. I don't want to piss off the mods :)

6750 finally arrive in OC forum

Or it might be better to start our own 6750 & P35C-DSR Overclocking forum. What do you think?

Fatboy & Snail - wanted to say thanks for all the tips on the OC of my board. Got the BSOD and panicked and swore alot , but found out it was the AHCI driver being installed AFTER XP and Vista. Seems I DO need a floppy drive after all...

As this board has AHCI options to enable - Most problems and XP/Vista installations can be remedied by reading the following links...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A...t_Controller_Interface

http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/...ci-enabled-controllers
Hope this helps someone.

See you in the new forum!

Im getting so desperate. I just yesterday got my new rig and now I've tried simply everything.

E6750 G0 stepping + Tuniq Tower 120
Gigabyte GA-P35C-DS3R F4 BIOS (rev. 2.0) (CPU-Z says Rev: A2, so I presume it's 2.0)
4x 1GB Crucial Ballistix 800MHz 4-4-4-12 @ 2.2V specced
Antec NeoHE 550W
8800 GTS
Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit

I can change all the other settings in BIOS (also the "hidden ones" through CTRL+F1) but FSB!

If I touch it and set it to the SAME 333MHz it's on AUTO -> my computer dualboots after saving BIOS and BIOS settings for FSB is reseted.

I've tried with auto voltages, with manual (+0.1-0.4V to RAM) etc - nothing helps.

I had the same problem with the "stock" F2 BIOS this board came with.

What on earth is going on?

C1E, thermal throttling, EIST, Virtualization disabled.

Please help me out! :(

Thanks.

Solved it myself though! :)

1) legacy usb storage detect --> disabled
2) smart fan control --> legacy
3) no-execute memory protect --> disabled

I've 500GB external HDD, guess that had something to do with the point #1

cpu-z says A2 for me too & mine's a rev 1.1. The way to tell the revision is to read the printing on the pcb in bottom left corner of the board - the edge by the IT9718 chip. If you've installed a BIOS for the wrong revision it might explain the issues.

Edit: Looks like the BIOS is the same for all revisions. Phew!

Noticed that my box said v1.1... :<

Changed back to v1.1.

Let's see how this goes, E6750 @ 3.76GHz (470FSB x 8) 1.45v + Tuniq Tower 120 | GA-P35C-DS3R rev 1.1 F4 BIOS | 4x 1GB Crucial Ballistix 800MHz 4-4-4-12 2.2v @ 940MHz

Be stable, mmkaaay! :)

The only difference between the 2.0 and the 1.1 mobo is that they replace the serial and parallel ports with more USB.

Hi folks,

I'm about to buy this mobo GA-P35C-DS3R, but i read a forum post (http://forums.tweaktown.com/showthread.php?t=25051) that let me worried. So my question to you is:

How many of you are running this mobo for over a week or better yet a month, rock solid ? No lockups, random resets, bsod's, etc ...

Yours answers will help me decide if this will be my next pc mobo.

I'm worried because my asus mobos (used with amd cpu's) never let me down. I'm using asus mobos since 2001 and none of them died.

I've had mine for a month and been very happy with it. You're always going to hear reports of bad boards whichever the brand. The only issue I've had with mine is that on a couple of occasions it has reset itself to the optimized defaults after I've rebooted it. However, since upping the vcore slightly, I've not had this problem again (knocks on wood). One other thing that niggles is the fact that I cant get EIST to lower the vcore now that I've overvolted the cpu, although I'm sure I had this working a few days ago. This though is a common design of most boards/bioses so not fair to single this one out for it. If you're after a cheap P35, you cant really go wrong with the P35-DS3R or the P35C-DS3R.

I have been reading those posts on tweak town. It very strange to hear what is going on with those guys. One guy has had two boards with the same problem. I think there is something else going on with some of them. I can't tell if they have newbie problems, or OC the heck out of them and damaged them, or just bad random luck.

I have had my board since Aug 1 and I love it. Not only will I beable to upgrade to ddr3 I also will be able to get the new penryn chip for this board.

I bought this board because I wanted a nice upgrade path. I try to hold on to my system as long as possible.

Found out that the 470 FSB wasn't stable at all...

I've ran 9 hours of Prime95 torture test now, temps are 73-75C (latest Coretemp) - seems stable, so Ill stick here. Time to move to RAM & GPU. :)

440 x 8 = 3.52GHz, Tower Tuniq 120 (possibly bad contact since the high temp?), Antec p182b

Vcore 1.35
RAM +0.4V (Crucial BallistiX)
FSB and MCH +0.1V

I've been reading through those problems over at tweaktown too..also a few rebooting issues in reviews on new*gg say the same.
Crossing my fingers mine will be okay when i start building tomorrow.

Just few days ago got my E6750 + Tuniq Tower 120 + Gigabyte GA-P35C-DS3R + Antec p182b.

E6750 is G0 and Tjunction is 100C' instead of 85C'. Does this mean I can "safely" push my E6750 to 75C' which would be "old 60C'"? Intel did raise the Tjunction for a reason, didn't they?

Im currently running 450x8 = 3.6GHz. Idle temps are around 52-54C' and after night of Prime95 torture test around 78-81C'. Vcore is 1.3825V. System seems stable this far, but no idea what happens in month or few when some dust accumulates on Tuniq / rest of the system.

Should I be worried or is it all good?

I thought it's the stability that matters really, not temperature? If it'd be too hot, it'd simply crash/BSoD, riiight? Kinda nawb at OCing...
I've thermal throttling set on from BIOS as well for safety.
