Had a bad losing streak yesterday. For some reason even though I see everyone else dominate with huskar, I never do well with him. Some games I did decent, but lost because the rest of my team was feeding hard. One game which we should have won by all rights, but we couldn't group up and push and eventually the enemy team turned things around.

Finally won the last game I played before going to bed, and I was rewarded with a mythical boar courier! First time I got a drop that is above rare.

Husker is very easy to counter... just equip blade mail = instant death when Husker tries to use his ultimate... or gank him like crazy 1vs1 with slardar before husker can get his BKB.

I've been playing this like crazy over the weekend, mostly sticking with vs. bot matches just so that I can learn the various heroes, etc..

One thing that sucked was that one of the games had a graphics issue where my screen was completely black - I could still hear everything, but couldn't click on anything (or if it did something I couldn't see what it was doing). I ctrl+alt+del'd and killed the task, then logged back in and found I had a "low priority" status which put me in a crap queue with zero bonuses for 24 hours. I also had another abandoned game from earlier in that day, where I was hanging at the base too long trying to figure out how to buy and combine items, etc., so apparently the two "abandons" is what caused the low priority. It was pretty annoying; I can see giving me the "low priority" for messing up 2 real games but these were versus bots. :(

Sorry to hear. How do you like the game so far?

I played Huskar yesterday for the first time and was surprised to see how easy it was to dominate with him; I did extremely well for a noobie, 8 kills with 2 deaths. One of the times I died was because there was so much going on the screen that I couldn't manage to find my character, so after that I started casting regen on myself right before I jumped into battle.

Huskarr seems like the perfect anti-bloodseeker. I'm starting to have a lot of fun with this game, and the old days of playing it from Warcraft3 are starting to come back to me as far as strats, etc..

So far am loving it to death - you were right, I feel like it's becoming an addiction already.

The downside is that it has earned me some aggro with the wife, since this "low priority" queue thing doesn't let me leave the game without consequences. Oh well what's another night sleeping on the couch, right?

You can try playing a custom game and having allied bots against bots. You could leave this game whenever you'd want.

They added the abandon feature to the bot games because it was rare to see people play those to the finish. Frequently people would join a match, random, not like their hero, and leave.

If you don't gain experience for 5 minutes, you are given an abandon. It doesn't matter where you are. It's a feature that needs to be tweaked, because I can see new players taking a minute to walk back to base from lane, spending 4 minutes looking at the shop, and randomly getting an abandon.

I played Huskar yesterday.

Huskar is fun but he's picked rarely in medium++ skill levels because people just chain-stun/chain nuke him to death with any moderate teamwork. This is detrimental because Huskar only 'works' at low hp = which is great for unorganized pubs.

I take it you tried Armlet with him yes? It'd godly on him. You can flash-toggle to gain +475hp and continue to wreak havoc. Once he gets BKB, then he has zero fear.

What's the advantage of purchasing a compendium versus watching a live stream?

http://forums.anandtech.com/showpost.php?p=35028524&postcount=22

If you're watching a game via their client with compendium, you have a chance to win items whenever the match makes certain events (multiple kills, first blood, etc).

I rarely watch games through the client because livestream production is so good with their overlays, tournament stage shots, 'newsdesk' shots, etc.

By the way guys, G-1 League grand finals just finished few days ago- Dota 2's biggest tournament outside of TI3. I'll link them here. This match is highly touted because of the western team going up against the big powerhouse Chinese team. Similar to Starcraft and Koreans, Chinese typically dominate the Dota scene. Grab some popcorn and watch it here. Great commentary by BTS studio (my fave):

Spoiler-free best of 3. These give you a good idea of the pro picks and strats today. You'll learn a lot just watching them draft alone.

LGD is the big bad Chinese team. They went 12-0 at group stage in TI2 last year and crushed everyone. Alliance is the Western team that's been playing VERY solid.

Didn't try armlet yet with him; keep in mind I'm still really new to the game, I went a very basic build and got lucky. I'll definitely try the armlet next time I play him.

Ah ok cool, didn't realize all of that. I've always just streamed matches in the past via one of the live streaming sites.

Check this out as you're learning Dota. Armlet is one of the more complex item in Dota (actually the most)- and with a big payoff.

Armlet Wiki

Armlet discussion

Armlet in action

Basically, everytime you turn it off then on, you get 'free' 475 HP. With some practice, you can abuse this toggle during fights to fight on indefinitely.

Armlet works wonders with Huskar because he can control +25 STR (and 475 hp) at his whim which speeds up his healing like on crack (Inner Vitality). And he can burst extra HP on and off. And Huskar goes apeshit when he's low on HP all that time.

Looks like Valve sent out another wave of invites. I don't even know what to do with them. I have like 30 of them.

Just ask us, guys. A free game to play in minutes!

Guys, a BIG patch got released today (6.78)! This is a major patch in almost a year! Big balance changes and 2 new heroes.

6.78 Changelogs

Discussion on Reddit

**My take on 6.78 relevance to pro scene:**

* Scepter Reaper Scythe doesn't seem to be a big deal to me. He's rarely picked and that very situational buyback deny is not worth it similar to the reason why you don't pick Ursa because he's good at killing Rosh fast.

* I don't even care about Armlet, but Bear now gives 300 bounty!

* Omni getting Scepter in pro scenes? Nope.

* Heroes will reach level 11 much faster for that ultimate level 2.

* Gyro's Flak Cannon 30 cd from 20 is a hefty nerf in team fights.

* Lich's Chainfrost bounce to 10 from 7 is noteworthy. He would be quite deadly at level 6.

* Nyx got a nerf to his ridiculous Mana Burn.

* SF's ultimate isn't that big deal either. Yes 50% reduction will make a difference, but in grand scheme of things (positioning, all magic spells, stuns, etc), it's no big deal. It's similar to Tide's Anchor Smash (-40%).

* Scepter Silencer, lol. Nope. Gimmicky. He needs his Hex/Atos/Mek/etc.

* BIG nerf on Naix with Open Wounds cast range. He can always initiate with his far Open Wound casting at low levels. All that is GONE with 200 range. He can hardly gank now, but only act as a follow-up in pro scene level 1-5 wood ganks.

* Gem is indeed a big deal & new CM draft.

* Bat got a noteworthy slight nerf. Flamebreak will have him manage mana more conservatively. The vision is bad too.

* Tiderhunter's Ravage no big deal.

* AC's armor stacking with Vlad is noteworthy. Your supports will benefit greatly with +15 armor (AC + Vlad + Mek). Suddenly they all have mini ACs.

* BKB receives a bigger nerf.

* DK's Corrosive Breath carrying over is good. Now there's no more awkward delaying ultimate level 2 because it's not good enough early and pushing is better.

**My take on 6.78 relevance to PUB STOMPING:**

* Axe's HUGE 20% Helix CD reduction will further make him perform big turn-around Helix plays (suddenly triple kill, and Axe was ganked first? wtf).

* Dagger getting 12 CD from 14 is a HUGE buff to Puck. Puck relies on cycling all his CDs to dodge you forever and ever. That extra 2 second reduction means better clutch escapes with Phase Shift, Euls, Orb, etc. More big Puck plays incoming.

* Bristleback can sustain his Quill damage more. This will prove to be quite annoying.

* CM's new Brilliance Aura buff is double from level 1. And remember CM gets another double regen for herself. This is a quite a buff right from level 5 with 3-1-1.

* Doom's Scepter mechanic is lulz. But think of the opportunity cost. Who really gets Scepter on Doom? He's usually busy going hard carry with real DPS/HP/Armor items.

* Enchantress' Scepter is noteworthy because this will also guarantee +25 pure damage at every shot with no additional cost.

* Shredder is stronger than ever before now! With some farm, I think he's already good in pubs that can make big plays (Arcane & Wand). But now he got a massive set of 4 buffs. This will have him ROFLSTOMP his early game.

* Pudge's insane Flesheap buff will allow him to snowball more in pubs. This is good. Who doesn't like Pudge buffs?

* Lion Scepter Finger CD is lulz 20 seconds. I like this trend of really fine-tuning otherwise worthless Scepter users similar to Axe & Huskar (BIG low CDs!)

* Sand King's Sandstorm having full fade delay is awesome. He can make big plays, the only thing levels get you is the CD. Good stuff.

* Veno's 12 cd Poison Sting is a healthy buff since that's the lethal damage when combined with his ultimate. So it buffs both skills together. I thought this would be great for laning harass, but it's only +1 second more when Veno is level 5. Very smart Icefrog.

* Drums are still op.

From a pro point of view I don't think the Lich change will have any effect at all. He is a very rare pick at the moment and in what pro game situation would a team allow all 10 bounces to occur on useful targets? Could be a bigger buff in low skilled pubs (where lich has a 55+ winrate) so I don't get this change.

I disagree on SF's change, I think its a pretty large buff. While tide's ankle smash is somewhat comparable, its radius is 400, whereas SFs radius is 700 (675?). Not complaining as SF is one of my favourite heroes! (Also, does the damage reduction go through BKB, I know the slow does...?)

Hmmm... time to learn how to play Doombringer ! Scepter = no Doom countdown if target is 550 AOE of Doombringer = run forest run! :p

Also bloodstone on Skeleton King can allow him to strategically kill him self to heal everyone in a team fight and give vision and his Ulti will allow him to come right back into the fight to slow attack/movement speeds!

Yea I'm with you on Lich. That's why it's noteworthy at best.

As for Doom... (This isn't directed at anyone here, just reposting my comment from reddt)

You honestly think Scepter Doom will be 'broken'? You know he has to commit to that hero until he dies? Also he has to commit 4200g just to kill 1 hero. Think of all the opportunity cost and real items you could've gotten.

Chrono
Ravage
Black Hole

There are any number of AoE ultimates on heroes that are regularly picked in the pro scene which would allow Lich's ult to bounce as many times as you want it to.

(In the pro scene)

Ravage wont make it bounce enough times, plus a tide and lich support combo is really bad (awful lane, no stuns, no escapes (except ulti)).

If you catch a 3 man chronosphere with most of your team outside it, you win that fight anyway, you don't need the lich ult provided you have some sort out ranged dps/spells.

If you get a 2+ black hole that isn't interrupted (obviously tricky in the pro scene) you win the fight anyway, you don't need lich.

Or, even if lich ulti does help in that situation, the 3 extra bounces wont help you at all. The targets would be dead already. My point is that you need so many heroes for all 10 bounces to hit useful targets that if those heroes are close enough for you to hit then it will only be because of some massive black whole (or w/e) you will win the fight without the lich there. In pub games the buff will help because players are bad though!
