The true reason behind the delay of AMD Cayman 6970/6950

This is hard to believe.

"If you unmount the cooler of a reference card, you could notice an obvious abrasion over the corner of the inner 6/8-pin power
connector socket. No, it ain't by chance you've got a bad pick. It's common among all the popular review sites.

Yes, it's because if you don't polish that corner, you wouldn't be able to mount and install that cooler! Thus AMD spent a delay
to fix that - they polish every card by hand, therefore each card is guaranteed to be a hand-crafted unique version!"

lol, I pictured everyone at AMD, from the janitors to the CEO polishing connectors late into the night.

NVIDIA is on a winning streak. That looks to continue for awhile. Especially since the 6970 refresh practically didn't show up till next year.

What? I normally look to your posts for sense among a sea of trite, what's winning? (there's more to a company than your fastest card)

Still better than woodscrews, tho the image of a hi tech robot handing gpus to a guy to fix on a grinding wheel is very amusing.

So we believe a forum post as the "real reason"?

I guess if you really, really want it to be true you could deceive yourself into believing it.

Please explain how this is better than a wrong specific type screw used in a mock up card ?

i can confirm the "notch" - but it is TINY .. not like the pic - there wasn't quite enough clearance between the VGA fan and the PCIe connector housing; even the screws holding on the backplate were loose

however, it is NOT like the pic and it does not compromise any integrity

and if AMD was really really smart, they wouldn't even have to disassemble the card - the fan blades are wide enough to work a small burning or grinding tool though the gap

they should have had me there for advice

At any rate .. i shot off an email to AMD for their official comment
