CAUTION : European Joining in!!!!
Hey guys. Sorry to jump into the middle of your national argument once more but I've followed this thread and it looks like an honest broker might be helpful.
The Bigger Picture was mentioned.
Please excuse me if I am wrong (or excessively arrogant) but I do not think any American who hasn't made a trip abroad recently (and by abroad i mean outside of any massive hotel complexes

) has any clue of what the bigger picture is. I know the US media are doing anything in their power to keep reality from the average Joe
The US media are doing everything in their power to communicate to us the message you post here and I also know that every American who feels the need to know a little bit more of the truth uses the internet. But even those few web pages that provide this information are not enough to portray the damage the USA are doing to themselves.
This damage is evident in the small talk between people; in the everyday life events that show what the common perception of America is these days. The expressions Europeans use like "homicidal like an American" or "Stupid as Bush" that are used throughout Europe are only two examples.
Nice to see you're obsessed with us. Too bad we don't return the favor. We're I humble as you, I might make a suggestion how you run your own country. For example, if you're French it might be better to focus on the riots in the your streets instead of if the USA etc.
There are posters here who evidently measure a country's status financially. If that was the case then the USA would not have a status any different to China's (where a human life is cheaper than a bagel
- so you got no problems denigrading the Chinese either. The air must be rather thin up on that high moral ground where you stand looking down at all others ) or Saudi Arabia's.
These posters ponder on how the USA might benefit from a possible impeachment or indeed trial of a president if that president has committed war crimes. They think it would be a national disgrace as they put it.
This logic implies that the countless leaders and generals and presidents that the USA has executed or waged wars against during the past decades were wronged greatly! It implies that there are two rules and two scales and what applies to us does not apply to the rest. It is the logic that costs you to lose allies and friends by the day.
Losing allies? That's odd, I thought France & Germsany recently pro-American leaders. It is the logic that damages America and turns the Statue of Liberty into a horrific joke not cyan but red holding bombs instead of the flame while mocking you with a sneer.
I honestly ask of you my friends to explain to me, a foreigner, how America is behaving any different to its enemies.
If you jihadists, the answer is pretty obvious: we don't behead people, chop their limbs or purposefully target civilians etc The average European needs to have it explained because we just don't get it! Is it the language? Is it the fashion or the movies? what makes you think that your way is always the just or moral way?
Your preceeding sentance looks to be a classic case of projection When the British discovered what happened in Graib some real shit rained down! And i find people here that don't even care that their country has tortured! Do these "people" honestly think that it matters WHO you torture? Do they fail to realize that at the moment when you decide to mimic your enemy and engage in their techniques
IMO, it's wild exaggeration to say we engage in their techniques you become them to the eyes of your peers? It could be an AQ member or it could be a 10 year old fragile girl it really makes no difference.
I couldn't disagree more. Nor do I see any basis whatsoever to compare AQ members to 10 year old girls.
But hey, you guys elected an ex CIA head to the white house....and we are discussing whether torture condoned by his son is moral or not......To our eyes (the rest of the world) you appear dangerous, aggressive, and to tell you the truth somewhat homicidal.
Fair enough, we basically are. Terrorist attacks on civilians have a way of provoking that response from us.
And that's the bigger picture whether you like it or not. Sorry if i woke anyone up from their dream.
