and how is there no news of whats going on? these things are out at night attacking people in public now and no one is aware of it...not on the news. are the people behind it bribing the news people or what? there's some filler we didn't get to see yet.

2 things:

1. I watched last night's episode and I thought the "attacking" was reported on the news.

2. The internet and cellphones are all down. Communication of news is difficult.

Oh its yet another one of those?

I didn't read the books, but from the first episode, I thought it was going to be the take on vampirism taking over NY from the CDC's prospective. It just hasn't actually done anything in terms of actually advancing the story though. It is literally a set up and filler.

What's the story/angle with Vasiliy Fet's character? The New York pest control guy.

He is an exterminator, and,
saw 'strain' victims & survived to draw pics about them, then find a few more 'strain' victims, and showed them why UV rays are bad for them...
Other than that...zzz on his story.

This show is just moving way too slow, as was mentioned above.
I just don't understand the pacing, lots of these episodes could have been merged together with no loss of information.

It took way too long for the exterminator to get into the A story. He's obviously going to be the muscle for the vampire hunters. This show could have went from the pilot to the last two episodes and you really wouldn't have missed anything. Still like the show, but I should have waited till the season was over before watching it.

I just marathoned the first 6 episodes and I'm really enjoying the show. Happy to see that it's a 13 episode season and they've already ordered a 13 episode second season. If you haven't started the show, get caught up - it's getting good!

They want to make it five seasons...that pretty much explains the 'pacing' to me. And by 'pacing,' I mean 'boring filler.'

It's based on a 3 book series. I'm assuming the first season will basically run through the entire first book. It takes a while to get crazy.

The problem is that slow development doesn't work in TV shows or movies. Nobody wants to watch you slowly develop your characters over 6+ episodes, because it took 250 pages to explain their depth in a book.

This is a TV show, and they live (and die) by their continued ratings. Without anything to hold viewers in, they aren't going to make it 5 seasons.

I agree. I'm probably more patient than the average viewer, since I've read the book and I know where stuff is going.

I'm hopeful that season 2 will be an improvement. It should get into a spot that interests more people.

It doesn't work in a book like this either - I decided to read it before watching the show, and holy crap. I don't know how many times I have to read about someone draining their family before I can get to something interesting. It's like the same infection/feeding story over and over ...

I like the series, I've been recording it, but it starts at just the right time 10pm that isn't TOO late that I'd rather watch it then, vs. a few days later.

No sure what all the crying is about the patching of the show.

Woah finally something cool tonight.

Who's the Vampire death squad?
You rang ?

I know it was said that they are being so slow to stretch out episodes, but, this is getting downright silly.
They took almost 17 mins explaining the 'old guy's' history.
Another 5 mins for the jail birds.
Another 10 mins about them still being in denial.
25 mins in commercials.
and the rest was more fluff.
No 'exterminator' in this episode, they save that for next week. D:
The only question is, why didn't the 'old man' know about the "hunters" for lack of a better term, since he could have used them in the plot to capture the German vamp.

Seriously. He's being doing this for 80ish years and they never crossed paths once?

That is pretty darn close, but, the "new" style, their mouths don't open that much.

I guess you can say this show has parts from lots of other shows before it...
Speaking of Blade, that is the first thing I thought of when I saw the 'hunters'.

Eh, it was okay, but still way too slow for the information we are being fed. Like, what was the long scene with the gangster in prison? To establish he doesn't do drugs and nobody gives a crap about vampires? Oh! Thank God we learned about that...

Or, how about Samwise's wife leaving him? He literally only had to say "The ones I did this shit for got you into that cancer treatment place. Stfu now." I swear, women on TV are always portrayed as such fucking idiots. Women around the world should be boycotting this show. The very first episode set the tone: Eph's wife (and the therapist) are total fucking idiots. "Oh, you mean your job that involves preventing the outbreak of disease in the city, protecting millions of lives, is slightly more important than my personal problems? You are such a dick, Eph!" I'm sorry, some of us a more important to the world than an ungrateful bitch trying to steal my kid away from me...

Who writes this crap?

/rant

I am still watching it. I am interested enough in the ex Nazi vampires converting the world and a daywalker wanna be staking people in the head.

well gangster's stuck in a cell with his infected brother/friend/whatever

When the guy with a crossbow came in thought the pest control guy was finally getting into the story.

Instead, and even more interesting, we get another vampire faction that seems to be hunting for those infected.

Ever new vamp we've seen seems to have a bit of a limited intelligence, wonder how that will be explained.
